I turn 21 in on October 7th, and of course the first thing I am going to do(besides put 20 on black) is buy me a handgun. So I went shopping around right after I got off work, and due to my budgetary constraints, I was looking for a sub $400 auto. Well I went into one store, and was doing a little art appreciation when the store keeper asked me if he could help. I told him my situation. I said I was looking at some of the rugers he had, as well as an XD he had going for 399. He asked me if I had ever given thought to a Glock 19. I had, and that would be one of my first choices, but they typically creep closer to $500. I work for a well hated government agency whose initials begin with T and end with A, and I still had my Uniform and Badge on. Then he asked me if I am looking for a firearm to carry on duty, and I explained that we don't carry firearms while on duty. Then he asked me if I worked in security. Well, technically I do. So he said that qualified me for special LEO pricing. A Glock 19 with the regular capacity magazines for "4 and a quarter." I was a little taken back. From my searching, this is an exceptional price.

So I ask, would this be legal? I'm assuming it is because he's not actually selling me anything illegal. Even though I'm not the typical definition of Law enforcment, could I still qualify for LEO priced specials. From what I gather, this is an arrangment made between a gun manufacturer and a gun store owner.

I'm so giddy right now. 7 days until the fruition of my dreams... g19, 3 Hi caps, uhhh ahhh uhhhh

But not much concerning the law as concerning the agreement with Glock. I would think he get's these at a discounted price as long as he only sells those to LEO's at discounted prices. I guess I really want to know is :

What, in thier eyes, is a qualified law enforcment officer?

I just can't see how it's your problem. I buy Winchester Ranger ammo and Winchester only wants their dealers to sell to LEO. It's marked LEO only on the box. Either way, it's not illegal and it ain't my problem.

Take the discount and don't worry so much.

Finch, please think in terms in of the Queen's English. Clearly stating what you have to say is important. Your posting, despite your excitement, is unclear. Sounds to me like you have a part time job with none of the full time benefits. Part time jobs are like that.
Having said that, BS is just that. BS will come back and kick you hard. Once you're found out as a liar, nobody will trust you. The absolute truth, on the other hand, will never cause you any grief.

Finch, if you're TSA, you're regarded by the Federal Government as working in a law enforcement position. That's good enough for Glock's LEO sales program. (I have the same benefit - as a chaplain with the Bureau of Prisons, I'm officially a LEO as well! :D )

I suspect that the Law Enforcement discount is more of an in-store discount at that shop than anything. It pays to give good prices to people who will likely be buying a lot more equipment. It certainly isnt illegal for you to buy so long as the weapon itself is legal.

Some shops don't mention a thing about LEO discounts, some advertise it, and with the discount, the price is more like what you can get at another shop!

It would probably end up being a shop to shop decision anyways, if they are willing to sell it to you and you pass the check, then go for it!

Yes, in the eyes of the other alphabet organizations it's legal. But, check your SOPs from the TSA to see if they say it's A-OK. Seriously.

I know of one other quasi-law enforcement agency that does not want it's officers to use their status to get a LEO discount.

Like a few others have mentioned, it doesn't sound like it's a problem if you take the discount. I'd take it.

I did some hours behind the counter of my favorite gun range and was told that law enforcement types get a discount on Glocks. This discount not from the stores owner, but from Glock Corps. LEO discount program.

All anyone in law enforcement need do is bring a typed letter on department letterhead and your supervisors John Handcock to a authorized Glock dealer. Gun dealers in Fla. need to have a contract w/ Glock for this purpose.

I am not sure how this affects their (dealers) profit margin if they sell for less without the contract.
