Disney remembers a different 'Alamo'

I'm not a Texan. . . . yet. I'm just practicing.

The idea that Billy Bob Thornton is going to play Davy Crockett like every washed-up hero cop character in Hollywood. . . . that's nauseating.

Crockett, played by Billy Bob Thorton

That, ALONE, should be enough to make Billy Bob have second thoughts about ever setting foot in Texas again. I predict bomb threats at the Texas openings, except in Austintacious and Plano, maybe Dallas. I know if my small town had a theater, no one would go. Might not be safe!

"Wasn't that the last battle the Mexican army won?"

No. Didn't the Mexicans also defeat the Texans at Goliad shortly thereafter?"

I stand corrected. Goliad happened a few months before the Alamo. See the link I posted above.

Allow me to comment on the bashing

First and foremost, for anybody that hasn’t read many of my post and doesn’t know, I am a diehard and dedicated Texan. Peruse some threads on TFL (try this one for starters) to see just how much. In fact, I don’t think you will find a more rabid supporter of Texas than myself (ask el tejon). However, I don’t think anybody here is justified to say this movie will be bad. I have been following the production of this movie for something like a year or more now, and there are significant reasons why this just might be the best Alamo movie out there. I could go through a litany of reasons why if y’all wanted me to, but I’d suggest you not jump on the “this movie will be nothing but PC crap†bandwagon until there is reason to. I’ll admit I am more than a little nervous that the movie will succumb to PC, but the director (who, I might add, is Texas born and raise and not yet a real “hollywood†type) appears to be determined to make sure history is told accurately, unlike John Wayne’s movie, while keeping with the spirit and mystique of the Alamo. For now, I am very optimistic of this one. We will have to wait and see however.

BTW, did anybody read the article in this months Texas Monthly? There is an article raising the question of whether or not the Alamo should have been fought. The author makes a very valid point that raising such a question in no way lessens the sacrifice made at the Alamo. However, I have to say his reasons for making the claim that the Alamo was a mistake were pretty ridiculous. Art did a far better job in the thread I linked to above. I still disagree, but hey, thats what makes it fun to study. Regardless however, I thought this author was perhaps one of the worst I have read on the matter in a long time. Just thought I’d toss that out there for the crowd...

This is one Texan (by choice, not by birth) who won't go to see the PC version of The Alamo. I'll recommend that all of my friends do the same. I'd rather rent the 1960 version, as it is closer to the truth.

I am really getting sick and tired of the PC crap that Hollywood is spewing out. I won't see any of it. Those of you who are shareholders in Disney and other movie companies ought to complain to your hired help that they are costing you money due to their political stances, and that this won't be tolerated any more.

Please tell us all just what info you know that shows us this movie will be less accurate than the John Wayne Alamo, a movie that while enjoyable from an entertainment point of view was incredible inaccurate. I really want to know what this movie is doing that is so “PCâ€. Please share with us.
