After 2 years of dealing with hit or miss shooting with the Rem. Genesis. Be it with a scope or open sights. I have had it.

Today I went with a buddy to sight in the rifle, and after 2 together and then 2 off paper using open sights. We gave up.

I called a friend, and said if you want this rifle, and can make it work for you I will give it to you. I then went to the nearest store that had black powder rifles that were open. Did some research on my smartphone, and bought a black Thompson Center Omega. It had very good reviews. I plan on shooting it tomorrow. I will be using 2 pellets 777 with an XTP and black sabot. I have a few shockwaves as well, and may try those too.

Any suggestions?

I have always gotten the best results with loose powder rather than pellets. If you are using 777 pellets and do not consistantly seat the bullet your shots will be all over the place. If you jam the ramrod down hard rather than just seat it. If the pellet cracks which is fairly easy to do once again your shots will be irratic.

That being said yes the T/C Omega is a good gun. Mine favors 91 grains of 777 with a 250 grain shockwave superglide. Or 82 grains of 777 with a Hornady FPB 350 grain bullet. I have never had very good luck with powerbelts of any type.

Too bad that you didn't ask anyone for help to solve the problem with the Genesis. Some folks report excellent accuracy with theirs.

Some of the Omega rifles are known for having tight bores that can cause loading problems, especially when the barrel becomes fouled after each shot.
The barrel may need to be swabbed clean in between every shot. One way to help loading is to use the TC Super Glide sabots, or MMP's 3 Petal EZ sabots. The Harvester Crush Rib sabots also load slightly easier.
That also why some folks simply use the PowerBelt bullets because they load easier.
If the bore is too tight, then one way to fix it is to break in the bore by polishing it with bore paste. The fractional difference due to the thorough bore polishing can make a significant difference in the amount of loading difficulty.

The TC Super Glide Sabots can also be bought in bulk packs:

I have read, and been to every site I could find on the genesis. I have loose pyrodex, 777, and pellets. Tried 4 different bullets.

When I loose confidence in a gun, it is gone. I didn't feel like messing with it any longer. I gave it to a friend who can work out the issues. If he gets good results then he got a free rifle. Even better if the Omega shoots good for me. It will be a win - win situation.

Trust me fellas. I am not a die hard dark side shooter, but I have given it my all, and I was done. I didn't like the rifle any longer, and if it had not shown constant failures of accuracy with every conceivable combo I had then I would still be working on it, but when it comes to a point of disgust for me, and a loss of confidence in the woods. It had to go.
People should understand that. My post wasn't meant to put one above the other, but it was meant to be taken as "I had my chance, and I failed with that rifle." I had actually left the rifle with a member of the family who has been shooting black powder for over 35 years, and he could not get it to shoot.
The only load it shot good with was 70 grains of Pyro with a round lead ball. It would shoot that into a 4" group @ 100 yards consistently. I wasn't going to use that as a hunting load.

I am just glad we have choices. If the Omega doesn't perform it will be gone as well. You understand. Right?

I second arcticap's words. It's too bad that you can't go back on your word. Sound advice would be that you should try different propellants and different projectiles to find what your gun likes. Muzzleloaders are like women, all the same but all are different.

I am a proficient hand loader with smokeless powder. I load for seven different cartridges. I know the trial and tribulations of what it is to find a load a gun likes. I didn't just go to Wal-Mart and buy a rifles some pellets then start shooting and say "THIS GUN SUCKS!" It has been a trial. And it was a trial that I lost the will to fight in.

One thing is for sure, and I feel you guys can respect is that I didn't give up on the black powder rifles all together. I am trying to find something that works for me, and helps me get my deer.
I wouldn't point that Genesis at a herd of deer and pull the trigger. I would hunt like that anyway.
So now that we have gotten past the shoulda, woulda, coulda, and did... You guys got some advice on the Omega?

I have heard that the Shockwave doesn't open up on deer. I really want to shoot the XTP over 100 grains loose or 2 pellets which ever shoots best. I really like the XTP as a hunting bullet, and do not have a shot of over 100 yards where I would be hunting with black powder.
I have a .25-06 if I go out into the fields, or hunt in the longer lanes.

Also I like the Omega's feel more so than I did with the Genesis. I also own a few Remington's already, but not a T/C. Now I do. Kinda rounds out the collection. :)

I will start a new thread on hunting bullets for the Omega, as well as do some searching.
