Madonna thanks France for opposition to Iraq war

Madonna has thanked France for its opposition to the Iraqi war, during a private performance for 200 guests of a radio station in Paris.

Dressed in a low-cut black top and black glittery trousers, she performed the title track to her album, American Life.

The exclusive event, held at the city's Nobel restaurant, lasted 40 minutes.

But for those not invited to the venue, the concert was broadcast by the radio station live over the internet and to nine European countries.

As she thanked the French for opposing conflict in Iraq, she told fans: "Here in France I feel at home."

Shouldn't Madonna experience the same predicament (perhaps longer lasting) as the Chicks?

We take out the trash, people complain. It has been 100% proven that Saddam was guilty of horrible deeds, we have taken it out. What is everyone's problem?

In other words, she is thanking the French for helping to keep a pathological murderer, rapist and one of the foulest persons to ever live in power so he could torment his people some more. They should revoke her passport and make her stay over there.

"Look at me please, please!"

Her latest album had fair to good initial sales then dropped off the map.

She is over the hill for the majority of CD buyers these days and had been replaced by several younger female singers.

The stuff that she used to do to look avant garde and counter culture have become cliche's now.

She is doing and saying almost anything to get her name in the papers these days. I wouldn't be surprised if this was motivated more by the attention and the size of the reaction the Dixie Chicks got than by any kind of deep moral feeling about anything.

Ignore her and she will sink slowly into the sunset as a 40 something housewife and mother of 2 in rural England. Kind of like one of the characters on Monty Python.

I think DonP has it nailed. She's washed up and is just trying to keep her name out there.

btw: What would it take to make her stay in France?

I read somewhere that her new CD was priced well below the normal prices just to get the high volume of initial sales because the record company was sweating the bad publicity poor sales would incur.

This isn't polite but Madonna's a slut. Don't believe me? Check her sex book and watch her videos. Her private life aside -- she also can't sing, but then so can't a lot of singers in entertainment -- that's what the studio is supposed to cover up. I've never bought her CDs and don't care to either. I can't sit through an "acting" performance so this stupid remark on her part is no surprise. So her new CD is about "American materialism?" Well, gee...wonder how she lives since she claims to be so humble. Bet it looks nicer than what I own. She's a High school grad, right? She should move to France and stay there. I always suspected she didn't bathe regularly...and for Jessica Lange that's "ashamed to be an American.." she can move to Spain and stay there. I'll never watch one of her films again.

Actually, as far as Dixie Chicks, everyone should just kiss and make up - yeah, she's dumb, just listen to the music and don't worry about it.

Madonna is repeatedly malicious on this issue.

While I don't really care what she says either, the two are very different in this respect. Madonna is carrying it on and on.

As for Madonna starring in a movie - even being married to Guy Ritchie couldn't get her a movie that she can star in to not stink.

I've been waiting for this topic to be revisited. Here's a little blast from the past that I found while rooting through the microfilm.
Pasadena, Feb 16 - ...Gen. Peppino Garibaldi, militarist and patriot and grandson of Giuseppe Garibaldi, Liberator of Italy, ... During the World War, he and his five brothers, two of whom were killed in battle, organized the Garibaldi Volunteers and fought on the side of the Allies before Italy entered the conflict.
The general refused to discuss the Italian political situation, stating that if he had anything to say about his government he would say it at home but to say it in a foreign country would be unpatriotic, indecorous and undignified.

Dan..

The problem is.. When you take out a dictator that has killed some 1.5 Million people, the only thankful people ... are DEAD.

As for Madanna.. She's the Material girl that has run out of material..

Someone tell her that the David Letterman gap is something dentists can fix now...

I wonder why Madonna didn't use a few of those Iraqi's that are out digging up mass graves in search of their missing family member's bones in her recent music video. I guess that people crying over a few dozen acres of bones just wouldn't fit in with the theme of her video, which did show dead American soldiers and dead Iraqi children (of course, it implied the US killed them).

I have a copy of the video that they DIDN'T release since we didn't lose the war and she had to tone down the anti-US stance.

There has to be a deserted island somewhere these Madonna, Hollyweird, Media, Michael Moore, and sad sheep can inhabit.

They can boast and inflate each others ego's and we don't have to know.

It's a thought.

I think the reason that Madonna's comments havent created an uproar is because what she said didnt come as a suprise to anyone. The fact is that the demographic that buys her music probably didnt even notice that we were at war in the first place. Contrast this with the Dixie Chics who are theoretically a "country music band" (i am prepared to argue THIS point all night long) who's demographic is predominantly conservative and patriotic. For Madonna to say something stupid is SOP and in fact it tells me that all is right with the world. For a country act to say something un-american is a shock to everyone.

What is it with middle aged female entertainers? Recall Sally Fields and Streisand doing the same thing about the time they hit menopause?

And who is it who cares anything about what she says // does // thinks?

I'm beginning to think the most dangerous object out there is a microphone. Any number of idiots think they have something to say just because they have access to a microphone.

We need microphone locks. Do it for the children!

That's at the essence of the Dixie Chick's issue. Look at the type of people who have supported them these past few years, and you'll have a hard time finding any Madonna fans in the crowd. Natalie Maine's comments were (I believe) driven by an effort to suck up to foreign fans who could potentially buy their albums. She should have known better, but after seeing the whole group interviewed live on TV, it's obvious none of them had any real IQ horsepower. To use a very overused phrase, "they just don't get it."

Madonna? As a friend of mine used to say "Nothing is dimmer than yesterday's star." geegee
