Does a .45 always mean a 1911 to you?

Yes. When someone says .45ACP I automatically assume its some sort of 1911. They are still my favorite.

I carry a PM45 during warm weather and a Combat Commander when cooler. I learned a long time ago (mainly from the lore of how unreliable an out of the box 1911 is) to ignore most of the negatives unless I see them first hand. My PM45 has been perfectly reliable through about 400 rounds so far.

Nope, 45 means HK USP Tactical to me. Who would want an atiquated, icky ol 1911....I'm kidding of course. But I do love the HK.:p

Nope... it more often means S&W 3rd Gen as 1911. My Chief's Special .45 has become my new "most carried" and if I had to get rid of one pictured below, the 1911 would have to go. I'm kinda on the lookout for a 457S or 4513 now. ;)

It used to be that .45 meant 1911 to me, but the past few years it also means "XD-45" and I've bought 2 of those and plan on a XD(m)-45 as my next gun.

Well, I shot my 1911 for about 2 months before I sold it, and shoot my 2 yr. old XD45 every weekend, so.....no.

Guys who like GUNS, favor 1911s, especially high-end examples like Kimber, Colt, Dan Wesson, etc.

Guys who like target shooting favor everything, but seem to go for conventional steel guns like HK, Bereta, CZ, S&W, etc.

Guys who like gun games, (or contemplate actual combat) seem to favor the "Tactical Tupperware" segment such as Glock, Springfield XD, and M&P style pistols.

Yes, there is overlap, and not mutually exclusive per category, but that is what I've noticed in my experience as broad statements.

Myself, I have an XD45c for CCW and some plinking, but at today's ammo prices I do more carry than shoot. Still like fondling a finely-crafted 1911, but am unlikely to buy my own as it doesn't suit my primary need of reliable, abuse-laden CCW.

Hi there Gunners,

Got a EAA Witness from late '90s. I prefer it to the 1911. I know I speak heresy but I've owned over the years, four 1911 pattern .45s. All had worrisome unpredictable foibles. The EAA has never failed and it's double action on the first pull. I am not expert enough to comment on accuracy. I believe the Witness is at least as accurate as any of the 1911s I've shot.

Incidentally, I have a recent 1911 clone which I love to shoot, but I wouldn't trade it for my CZ85.

AAW

yes if someone says i bought a .45 im thinking 1911. if they didn't buy a 1911 i hope they specify which make/model they bought so i know. their are only two other .45's i think i might like, one is is the sig p220 sao & the other is the cz 97 b.

Yes when I hear 45 acp I think of 1911.
I have three of them, all colts, one of each size.
I on the other hand would not trust any one of them with my life!!!!!
Sometimes they work great and sometimes they don't.
To protect me and my family I count on my Sig 220.
It works every time all the time.
100 times the firearm as any 1911. Colt or clone!:neener:
And this is with 40 years of handgun use.
Now the people will sound off.

Nope - I have five .45's. Only one is a 1911 and it's a range gun only. Had it not been for 20+ years totin' one in the Army I wouldn't even own it. I also have a P220, two Smith revolvers in .45 ACP and a 4" Ruger Redhwk in .45 Colt. If I could only have one .45 the 1911 would be the first to go followed by the SIG.

I had to think about this. I guess at one time 45 meant 1911 to me but not so much any more. I currently own only one 1911. A RIA duotone tactical. Strictly a fun inexpensive range toy, but it has been very reliable. I carry a Kahr CW45 about 30% of the time. The rest of the time it's a Kahr CW9 or a 642 snubbie both equipped with CT lasers.

Does a .45 always mean a 1911 to you?
no it doesn't this is so aggravating when i hear people say this. .45 means a .45 caliber handgun to me, that could be a 1911, a glock 21, 30, 36, xd , m&p, ruger p 345 etc.

I tend to think along the same line as TexasRifleman and I KNOW I'm old fashioned. But I've never fired an XDm. Until I got the Ruger 45 convertable which almost always has the loaded .45 LC cylinder, the 1911 was what I thought of first.
