Recently made a trade with a fellow THR member for a CZ SP-01. At the time of the trade, I already owned one of these great guns, but the particular CZ SP-01 I traded for had been worked over by Teddy Jacobson. The work he did included:

-Complete Action Job
-Polish feed ramp + contour chamber
-Recrown barrel @ 45 degrees + polish bore
-Polished the breech face
-Jeweling of internal parts
-Contoured and polished trigger

Additionally, the gun had a wolff XP extractor spring and wolff 14lb. recoil spring installed. I replaced the hammer spring with a 17lb. wolff spring as well.

Took her to the range today and put 150 rounds of various ammo (WWB 115g JHP, Monarch Brass 115g FMJ, CCI Blazer FMJ) with no problems. The gun is just as accurate (if not more) than my previous SP-01, and of course has the same great features as any SP-01...extremely soft recoil, superb accuracy, excellent ergonomics. But the custom work DEFINITELY was noticed. The action job really made the trigger pull crisp and break cleanly. According to the work invoice the pull was reduced from 12 to 9lbs DA, and from 6.25 to 4.5 lbs SA. Since I replaced the hammer spring those numbers might have changed a bit, but regardless, the trigger is superb.

I also got as a part of the trade, a CZ Kadet Kit. Fits the SP-01 quite nicely (a tad tight, but nothing unbearable at all.) WOW! What fun this little .22 conversion is! I've only fired .22LR from long guns, never a hand gun. It was a very very enjoyable experience. I'm definitely taking the Kadet with me to each range trip from now on. I reccommend every CZ owner get their hands on one if they can. for less than 10 bucks you can put 500+ rounds downrange! That's my idea of a fun afternoon. :)

Hope you enjoyed this report!

Congrats, man. Sounds like you made a pretty good deal. I'd like to try a SP-01 sometime - people seem to like them a lot.

Does your Kadet kit's slide lock open when empty on the SP-01? Mine did for the first 1 or 2 outings, but it does not lock back on its own any more with any of the Kadet mags I have.

I noticed when I had mine..it needed a really long slide lock..was tempted to have one welded up in that area to ensure that feature..

It happened to me once, but none after that. My slide stop is cut as well, but I have a spare one as well, so if it comes up again I'll try the standard length stop.

Congrats! The Kadet Kit is the most reliable .22 kit I've ever seen. I just put my fourth brick of ammo through the Kadet on my P-01 today (4400 rounds total) and have had ZERO failures of any kind that weren't ammo related (bad primers seem to be more common in .22LR).

It's plenty accurate to boot. 9/10 hits on an 8" square from ~80 yards is no problem.

i love my SP-01! it was a present to myself and it was actually my first handgun...no complaints. angus hobdell lives like 45 minutes from me so i am saving up for a trigger job, i hear they are sublime. have you had any problems with ammo, or does it feed everything? i hear some jobs can make them finicky. have fun with that kadet, its on my to-buy list...

While my ammo sample so far has been pretty small, I've had no problems with anything I've shot so far (WWB, CCI Blazer, Monarch). These are all cheap target ammo, so I figure if it can feed this stuff then it should be able to feed most anything. :)

My Kadet works with all bulk .22lr ammo I have tried. IIRC, Federal .22lr bulk ammo caused the pistol to "spit" powder a little bit on my hands, but everything functions just fine. I've been using Remington gold box .22lr.
