I picked up one of the Romanian Draco pistols a few weeks ago. So far I have been very pleased. I got it from Bud's Police supply in Lexington for $369. They had 4 in stock to choose from so I looked them over and happen to find this one. They were all in pretty good shape, with a better fit and finish that the average WASR-10. They are new production built on new receivers and no used parts. Anyway, as I was looking them I noticed that this one's muzzle nut wasn't welded on... So that being one less thing I had to deal with, it went home with me :D

I soon added a sling attachment point to the rear of the trunnion and a krinkov style muzzle break/flash hider. A few days later I started working on the wood. Both the upper and lower handguards were solid wood. No laminate here. I finished them with a Birchwood Casey stock finishing kit. I gave them a few coats of the walnut stain that came with it, and about 8 coats of Tru-oil with 0000 steel wool polishing between. I think they turned out pretty good. The pictures of course don't do it justice.

I have fired exactly 60 rounds through it, All Wolf FMJ without a single hickup and as accurately as I could be shooting standing with no stock. I had hopes of using a single point sling and put forward pressure on it to steady my aim but I haven't found one that I like yet.

Lastly, I have an underfolder stock on the way and plan on making it an SBR. I have never done anything like that before and the task seems a little daunting... not to mention paying $200 for permission from uncle sam. They are made with an underfolder rear trunnion so all it would take is 3 holes drilled and 2 rivets set to make it happen though.

I guess you could call it a poor man's Krinkov.

So who else has one? Thoughts and opinions?

The wood in this photo is bleached out from my flash, the other pictures are more representative of the actual color.

Very nice, how I long for one and to be able to SBR it.

Century has some for $299 right now!!!
F'en NYS AWB!!!!!

The crappy thing is that if you SBR it, by the time you add a butt-stock, and a flash hider, its about a half inch shorter that a regular AK. 200 bucks for not much of an sbr.

I don't think that's the model they've got on sale.
I suspect they're clearancing their old "home made" AK pistols.

YUP, your correct. My bad.
I didn't bother to open the email till you "called" me on it.
US receiver and 12.5" barrel. Looks like AMD parts as it has no
upper HG.

Sleep in math much? :neener:

The Draco and Champion have 12" barrels. If you add a standard Warsaw length butt stock, you'll have an AK with a 12" barrel. Standard AKs have Warsaw length butt stocks and 16" barrels.

Now, if you go adding a Nato length butt stock, you've eaten up another 1½" over the Warsaw length stock.

If on top of that you stick a ridiculously long muzzle device on it, I guess you could reach near the same length as a standard AK, but doing one or both is your decision, and no one else's.

Keep in mind that if you add a Nato length stock and a ridiculously long muzzle device on a standard AK, it's gonna end up around 6" longer than "the standard", as well.

I'm dying to know what that "krinkov" style brake does for recoil/muzzle blast!

It really helps! I shot a few rounds before I put the krink on. Before, it had a muzzle flash the size of a beach ball and an obvious concussion on your face. Afterwards there were two flames about 8 inches long that shoot out of the ports on the top in V pattern and no concussion on your face at all. It also had less muzzle rise.

It was made by FA Enterprises and was 20 bucks from Brownells. I'm happy with it.

Good functionality from a fancy fishing weight. These ~$20 "styled after the real thing" muzzle devices are as sophisticated as something Junior could turn out in junior highl metal shop.

If that makes you happy, using a 14mmLH to 24mm adapter and an actual Krink muzzle brake would probably send you into orgasmic overload.

The difference is night and day.

Nope.

I did it. I added a pignose adapter to the draco's rear trunnion. Screwed in a four position car buffer tube and slid on a standard m4 car stock. After doing that and Adding a Krink muzzle brake, the whole gun is only 1 5/8" shorter than a standard WASR.

Please inform us as to the difference. I have the same one the OP has frpm Brownells. Is the "real" krink muzzle device better?

I had a Bulgy 4-Pice FH on my Draco. The 8.0oz and 2.5" it added was too much for me. I tried the FSC47 and very happy with the results. The FSC has at least 90% of the Bulgy's flash suppression and really cuts recoil. I was shooting at an indoor range, stuck against the wall, and the blast is not bad at all.

The only thing I have against the krink break is weight and length... I might try a slant break but I doubt it will decrease the concussion on my face... It will be nice and short though...

I just love the idea of buying an AK pistol from "Bud's Police Supply".

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but just the idea should tweak the anti's good. It's kind of like buying veal at some hippie co-op market.

draco porn

I love draco's. Great guns for the price. And because theyre sold as pistols theyre not all chopped and hacked up by the monkeys at century, then reassembled for us sale. So theyre pretty well made and function great. With a little practice a decent shooter can nail about anything they aim at. I was hitting an old dish washer at about 200 yards with its open sights.
