Dumb question now moved to a more appropriate, though possibly still not the correct forum.

Can a barrel for a handgun be shipped to me without going through an FFL? I can't seem to find anything definite.

Some parts are yes, some are no, and I don't really see a big difference.

Yes.
Usually on handguns the receiver is the "firearm" as defined by the ATF. The barrel is just another part.

Yes, the frame with the serial number is the regulated part of a handgun, the barrel and everything else is just parts.

Barrels do not require FFLs. They can be shipped ups/fedex and mailed via usps. You can buy them off the shelf in the store just like a sling or a spare magazine.

If you're buying from a reputable company, they should know whether whatever you are buying requires an FFL. For most guns, the reciever is the part that the ATF considers a firearm and thus is the only part that requires an FFL.

you could ship every piece of metal and plastic except the 'gun', ship that and you have legal hoops to jump through

The frame (the part you grip and 99% of the time the receiver in other firearms) is NOT the receiver on Ruger's MK I/II/III pistols.

Watch out for those absolutes, yeah?
