Duracoat finish

I bead blasted a badly pitted slide on a SIG 226 (I know we're on the Revolver thread) and then did one of the kits from Midway.

The kit even had the little aerosol sprayer with it the instructions were good you don't get the solvent with the kit this is used for prep work. If pitting is bad I would use Marine Tex to fill the larger pits that the bead blast won't mask. I shot the frame also. It made the gun presentable where before it was a wreck. If you own an airbrush that would be the way to go, it takes a little more time as you have to thin the coating down and make several passes, it is an epoxy 2 part paint a base and the hardner got to measure precise as you can get it to thin and to thick, thats where the instructions shine. But over all the process took that pistol to the point where people will ask to see it! The colors are all over the spectrum. PINK MDL 29 anyone I bet Clint has one hidden in his night stand.

have fun always

Got my old Marlin 94 duracoated flat black, and its holding up pretty good, being my truck and hiking rifle. Its not pretty but its not rusting.

I used the Lauer Duracoat on a Winchester 1200 shotgun that I built up for home defense. It is REALLY tough if you apply it correctly. The kit that you buy has a low quality airbrush included but it doesnt do a very good job. An auto detail air gun works much better. I blasted the reciever and barrel with aluminum oxide and then sprayed it down with the solvent that came in the kit. Painted it and then cured it in the oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes. After you take it out of the oven let it set for 24 hours before reassembly. Luaer says the coating gets harder the longer it sits. I painted the action bars also and didnt think that the paint would stay on them. I have fired 200 rounds through the shotgun and the action bars are only slightly dull. I picked the WW2 OD green color. I am sold on the product but wouldnt buy the kit again. It would be better to just buy the paint and hardener. The air brush is not that great and Im sure any good solvent would get the grime off. If I get time to take photos I will post them.

I have heard good things about it, but I don't think anyone would do it for you on a revolver. "Paint on" finishes are not advisable on revo's because of the close tolerances.
