Dynamite Shoot

I saw a poster today for an upcoming Dynamite Shoot in a town about 40 miles from my town. The 1000 yard freestyle target is ten sticks of dynamite with closer, easier targets reducing the number of sticks. Sounds like a real "BLAST". Anybody here ever been to one????

Sounds fun but a question. Do they have blasting caps in the sticks? Or do they thing the impact of bullets will set it off??????
I know it seems to work in movies.... I may have to test and see if a .223 will set it off sometime.

A rapid shock can very nicely set of dynamite. The impact from a bullet may very well be enough to do that.

The impact from a rifle bullet is enough to set off a can of black powder.

Don't ask me how I know.

I understand on black powder I have had two sticks end to end and if I don't remove paper the first will NOT set off second. This was drilled under a tree stump. Bang sounded weak and when dug up remains there was second stick.

Back about 30 years ago, I found a lengthy piece of fuse tangled in my lower unit as I retrieved at a launch about 100 yards below the Marine Reserve Station. I pulled the fuse in and it was attached to a soggy bundle of 27 sticks of the good stuff. There was no seal around the cap where the fuse went in so water got in and killed it. I called the FBI and apparently interrupted their nap, because the guy wasn't interested at all. He asked me if I saw anyone suspicious around. We can sleep easier just knowing . . .
