In Canada we have strict controls on AR-15's which are classified as restricted.
They are classified the same way handguns are here.
They can not be used for hunting and can only be used at the range with strict transport and storage measures.

Last Saturday night we had our Christmas party and the discussion came up about the tragic events of last Friday.

Due to the overall feelings that night I didn't want to argue the valid points against an assault weapons ban when my boss/ friend brought it up.

Tonight he called me because Piers Morgan was on CNN and he wanted to know if AR-15's are legal in Canada.
I told him that not only were they legal but I also own one.

He started asking me why we needed such high power semi auto rifles, and 30 round magazines.

I told him that compared to the other firearms that I own they are far from high powered.

I also explained to him that in Canada we are limited to 5 rounds in semi auto rifles but that my magazines are 5/30 P Mags which means that it is perfectly legal to have a 30 round magazine which has a pop rivet installed to limit the amount of rounds it will take to 5.

I explained to him that anybody who is intent on killing people will not think twice another drilling out the rivet.

He is slowly realizing that mag limits and firearm restrictions only apply to law abiding citizens.

Tomorrow I will be showing him the difference between .223, 7.62x39, .308, 30-06, and 300 RUM.
I will also show him different handgun calibers such as 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, .357mag, .44mag, .45LC, .460S&W, and 50AE.

Hopefully he will come with me to the range on Sunday.

Education will trump ignorance every time.
