Looking at getting a muzzleloader. Never had one or shot one before. Will probably end up with 3 by the time season opens next year. One for son and one for wife. Have been leaning towards buying a TC action for myself and adding a barrel, then maybe adding a few centerfire rifle barrels for fun.

I recently came across info on the Savage 10ML. Looks interesting, but how do they compare with the TC. Anything out there better han the TC? People around here have said a lot of good things about the TC. Probably the most common muzzleloader in my area.

Opinions?

T/C makes an excellent gun, but so does Savage. I reckon you know the Savage can actually be used with smokeless powder, although I'm not sure why any one would want to commit such an offense.
I think you'd be happy with either, I'd suggest shouldering one of each and go with what feels best.

There's advantages and disadvantages to every type of action and model.
Shooting most conventional powders requires swabbing after every 1, 2 or 3 shots, and throughly cleaning it after every shooting session.
Whereas with the Savage shooting smokeless, they only need to be cleaned once a year.
Then there's the new 209 Blackhorn powder that doesn't really require swabbing between shots, but should still be cleaned reasonably soon afterward.
CVA and Knight also have centerfire switchbarrel models, and Bergara barrels makes some for both CVA & TC.
But I'll bet that the TC's are more popular plus they have the TC lifetime warranty.

vs. Savage smokeless

Having hunted with most all the above mentioned, the savage will outshoot at long distance and out kill when loaded with its' top loadings in smokeless powder. My introduction to the gun was from an ex-military sharpshooter who shot and hit the small coleman fuel cells [full] at ranges I couldn't see with the naked eye until he pulled the trigger. The claimed energy approaches .300 Win.Mag. figures and exceeds in some loadings. The accu-trigger is adjustabe in pull down to an advertized 2 pounds. My accuracy with the gun at 100 yards was a 5 shot group measuring 3 inches from a bench shooting device similar to a Caldwell.I use Lee powder dippers, I used 47 grains of 4759 and a 250 grain .44cal. bullet with sabot. With a more precise powder measure of the centerfire reloading type such as an electronic scale and a better shooter, the groups from the Savage can be small. The negatives about this gun is its' size and weight.I'm a large man and walk long distances and hunt from trees and blinds. The gun is long and heavy.I would direct you to the T/C encore standard rifle, not the pro-hunter.It is short, light, and accurate.Me personally, I'm still hunting with a T/C Hawkin with a pre clean-out breach with APP sticks, patched .490 ball and #11 percussion caps. Its' light, open sighted, easy to clean up and punches two half-inch holes through any deer out to a hundred paces.

Have the savage, buddy has the encore -
Man- the savage kicks with a full loading of 4198 and a 300gr barnes - it also is easy to make a 114 and 122 yd. neck shot.
Man- the savage is long and heavy.Really heavy as compared to the encore.
I'd get the savage,well - that's what I did.
