I am looking for information regarding an OLD 410 shotgun that has been passed down in my family for generations. It has a 25" single, round barrel (machined flat on top) and is a single shot that folds at the trigger assembly for loading & unloading. The engravings are as follows:
"F. Dumoulin & Co.
Litge, Belgium"
Also, further down the barrel is:
"Defiance"
There are a number of letters and arrows engraved on the mechanisms as well. I would be happy to send photos to anyone if needed and am interested in the history as well as the rough value of the gun as well.
Thanks!
Rick

I can't offer much other than they were fairly common from maybe 1900 to the 1920s.
Chamber can be cut for 2" 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" shells, have a gunsmith guage it to be sure.
Don't try to fire 3" .410 bore shells in the gun it was never designed for them and all kinds of nasty things can happen least of which the locking mechanism will spring and the gun will no longer lock up.
35 grains of FFG black powder and 1/2" of #7 1/2 shot loaded into brass shell would be a wonderful load for the old gun provided a gunsmith certifies it safe to continue shooting.
The stock on you gun has been replaced upside down or perhaps an old Stevens stock was adapted to the gun to replace a long ago broken buttstock.
