I haven't seen the old Fed Value Packs (525 rounds of 36 gr HP) that you used to find in Wal-Mart, etc. in ages. But yesterday I came across a relatively new product called the Federal Field Pack. It comes in 275-round boxes, and is 38 gr HP. (Just two grains heavier than the VP round.)
I checked the specs (muzzle velocity and energy) on the box, and they are almost exactly the same as the old Value Pack.
I assume this is Federal's replacement for the beloved Value Pack, and the VP is no more?
Thanks

Makes sense to me. The old make the package slightly smaller with less product and charge a higher per unit cost. Easier than raising the price of an established product a great deal. Less complaints. At least Remmington has 333 packs of ammo available these days. I always figured the extra 55 in the 555 round WIN package (or the extra 25 in the 525 FED) was to make up for not packaging them in 50 round boxes like was done in the traditional brick packaging. I always experienced the 50 round boxes had less dud rounds in a total brick as opposed to the value packs. Value packs might have been a way to sell the suspect product that might not pass as perfect for the bricks. No way to prove this though.

Thanks. The shipping from the Ammoseek vendors makes the price exorbitant. I haven't found any other places online or in stores (all the online vendors show out of stock), and it would be curious that Federal would come out with a new product (Field Pack) with almost exactly the same ballistics as the old product (Valuepack). But who knows.

Some on gunbroker by the case. 5250 ROUNDS. Buy now $300. .057 cents each.

Plus shipping. I will wait to see at Walmart.

All could be Old Stock??

I have not been buying this particular 22 ammo but the federal automatch stuff I've been getting is pretty good. I have had good luck getting it without having to pay shipping. A year ago I was paying about $21 a box for it. The price has come down some. I got three boxes for like 53 bucks shipped a few weeks ago. That is the cheapest I have seen in awhile.

I have not seen the 275 Field Pack locally. Nor the old 525 rd carton pack. A week ago I bought a carton pack 0f 550 Federal 22 LR 36 gr copper-plated hollowpoint (muzzle velocity 1280 fps) at WalMart for slight less than $23 dollars. They also had Federal Champion 22 LR 40 gr lead solid round nose (1240 fps) in 50 round boxes.
50, 275 and 550 may be Federal's new packaging.

To ilbob: last Black Friday sale at a local gun shop I bought three 325d boxes of Federal Auto Match; so far, it has been good ammo and I was pleased to get it.

Added: I have seen Winchester Super-X in 222, 333 and 555 bulk pack in both 40gr and 37gr weights. Last time I went to WalMart they only had in Super-X the 100rd boxes of the 40gr hollowpoint which I call Fat Nose I have a few guns that don't feed it well.
