Took my CPL class last Saturday, applied for license on Thursday.

It took me far longer than planned to get to this point, due to work- and family load.

I already selected my carry (G26) after much bouncing back & forth, will likely order it as soon as I receive my license. Although G17 isn't that hard to conceal.

Choices.....

Id consider a Glock 23 gen 03 or the newer gen 04.
You can add white lights or lasers & you can buy after market conversion barrels in 9x19mm, .357sig or .22LR(with a kit).
You can not do that with a Glock 26 or 17.

If you really want a sub compact you can do the same with a Glock 27 .40S&W but you wouldn't have the option of adding a white light or laser system if you wanted it later.
See www.glockstore.com www.glockmeister.com www.glockworx.com www.midwayusa.com www.efkfiredragon.com www.customizeyourglock.com .

Conceal well, carry often, practice regularly, always obey the four safety rules and store it responsibly when it's not on your hip. Enjoy!

Congrats on getting your carry license.

If you think the G26 might be too small consider the G19 instead of the G17. Don't fool yourself the G17 isn't all that east to conceal. I know it's not much bigger than the G19 but it does make a difference. The G19 was specifically designed to feel like and full size pistol but conceal easier than one. I'm not a huge fan of semi-autos or Glocks in general but i do own a G19 and it's a good SD handgun.

Shoot before you buy. Make sure the small grip isn't a problem. Then choose.

Buy a good holster and practice drawing an empty gun fast while stepping to the side.

Practice dropping and replacing magazines without looking at the gun.

Look into defensive training.

Put priority on shooting fast at close range.

Read Counter Ambush by Rob Pincus, and In the Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob. Read everything you can get by Kathy Jackson.

Good luck!

Congrats. CC is fairly new in Illinois, and I went through a number of guns I thought would be good carry options. I found out what worked in theory didn't always work in reality. The G17 may be difficult to conceal in warmer weather. The 19 is easier to conceal, and I often carry that or my 27, which is the same size as the 26. Keep in mind that you have the option of an extended magazine with the 26, giving it the grip of a larger gun while allowing you to conceal it easier with the standard magazine.

shoot some critters with it to see if your "duty load" actually performs (in flesh and blood) the way you think that it will. Many are in for a very severe shock when they do this.
Are you freaking serious?!
WTH? There is so many other ways to determine if a load is suitable.
How about being a good steward of the land and only taking game or varmints when it's necessary, not to se if a load works.

I shot G26 without the pinky extension and I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I actually liked it and how accurate it was. With Pearce or Glock grip extension, it should be even better.

excellent choice. i have the g22 and g27. the g22 is rather hard to conceal unless in my shoulder holster and with a coat. the g27 is uncomfortable to shoot unless with the pinky extension. it does have a lot of recoil and tends to bite right below the beaver tail area. don't know about the g26 but if i were to get another ccw glock it would be the g19.

its great that you can convert the .40's back and forth but me personally i like to keep the them the way they are especially a carry weapon. keep in mind conversions are not always as reliable (from what i have seen) as the original.

My favorite carry gun is the Sig P938. I can pocket carry when wearing jeans and hardly notice it with IWB holster.

I just need to get some more range time with it. Too many guns and too little range time.
