so what if this place has used P99..how will i tell if its s/a or q/a since i never pulled the trigger on one before you know? any other way of telling if its a s/a or not?

ALSO: if my local shop cant seem to get p99 s/a for some reason is there a site that i can get them from, if so which site, and is there a ton of steps i have to go through to get a gun off the internet thru the mail.

excuse the spelling.

Unless it is a real old version, it SHOULD say A/S or Q/A on the slide. IF it is an older model (prior to the QA coming out here), it might not say anything but P99. But, telling them apart is still easy. The A/S has a large decocker button (the the pic of mine below). The QA has a decocker button 1/2 the size. On the QA - it is only used for disassembly. (also see the pic below)

As for ordering - go register at http://waltherforum.com/ and ask them that - I have seen that question come up many times...

So i went to my local gun shop today and they had no p99 but had a p22 so i played with it n it feels too small in my hand. i asked the guy in comparison is the p99 a little bigger n he told me its ALOT bigger. i asked ''i mean the compact p99" he still said the p99 is way bigger than the p22...so whats the deal? i want somethin a little bigger than the p22. it just feels kinda small like a toy. but sigs are too big. hows the p99 in comparison to p22...anyone have pictures of both together or have held/had both?

any help is appreciated. i looked at PPK also but i love the look of the p22 if only bigger.
thanks ahead of time!!

Get the end-all of CCW - the P99c QA in 9mm. I like the QA 'cause there is only 1 consistent trigger pull to learn, not 2 or 3. Short pull, no slop, good 7.5#, quick reset. Also packs adjustable grip panels, decocker, nice sights, ultra reliable, tenifer finish, super simple breakdown, great accuracy, excellent fit & feel.

The 9mm shoots great, and it comes with a pinky extension mag and a flat plate mag for 3 finger or 2 finger gripping.
PPK is a bit smaller, but is only .380, less rounds, DA/SA, and doesn't shoot as nice (small and light - even for .380). The P22 quality is questionable, and you can do ALOT better for SD carry then a .22.

Walther P99

Get the walther p99. Of the three versions, find the one with the manual decocker on the side. I think that is the A/S trigger. I have that version and it has been dead reliable, accurate and fits my hands perfectly, all things you should be looking for in your first and every gun really.

I had a pT 145 (non pro) and liked it a lot, but I traded it for a glock subcompact in .357 sig (now there is a snappy round!!)

I also have the P22. The P99 is much large in all dimensions. Test firing the P22 for fit is really not going to help you as they do not fell much alike. Trust this Thread and everyone that says get the P99. You will like it.

you do know i mean the compact p99..the stats on walther america says its barely bigger. looks...

P99 COMPACT: 6.6/4.3/1.3
P22: 6.3/4.5/1.1

and ppl are still saying the p99 is much bigger. i do mean the p99 compact.
anyone with a picture of the p99 compact next to a p22?

Whats a good price for a brand new p99c. my local shop quoted me $550 if i remember correctly but i still dont know if they know i mean compact or not b/c they insist the p99c is alot bigger than the p22.

The P99 Compact is not much bigger than the P22. I would definitely try to handle the P99 Compact before ordering one. I have three fullsize P99s and love them, but I am still torn on buying a P99C because the grip, even with the extended mag baseplate is just a tad to small for me.
$550 is about the best you are going to find right now. You can find them on the internet for $525, but once you factor in shipping and transfer fees it's a wash.
Another nice compact that is a bit less expensive and I have had great luck with is the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompact. I have two UCs and one fullsize Bersa and have been very happy with their performance. I paid $350 for each OTD. (BTW the Bersa is based on the Walther P88 series)

Just payed $599 for a Compact. The place I bought from is is no bargain, but $550 seems OK. It is worth it over similiarly priced / sized guns.

My pic towards the top shows the compact P99 next to the fullsize.

Width wise - it is the same size. The grip is shorter on the P99c compared to the P99 fullsize, and the barrel is shorter.

The P22 is not as thick as the P99s.

Find a SW99 - you will be happy. All the mechanicals are identical to the Walther. I like the slide configuration better. Best of all you save yourself $$.

Out West

Go with the PT145 Pro

The PT145 Pro is a nice cheap CCW weapon. Best advice is to find a range that rents guns and shoot all 3. They will all be very different and then you pick the best one you like.

I like small frame .45's even if you miss its easy to beat up deaf & blind badguys.

I have both the reular sized S&W 99 and Walther P-99QA. Enjoy both guns which have proven to be extemely reliable andremarkably accurate for their short barrel length.
