Many of you have helped me get an idea of the powder, primer, etc to prepare my setup for handloading. It paid off! Late last night I loaded 3 rounds of 300 Win Mag to "test" them today.

Loaded Seirra 110 HP's over 71gr H4831sc with CCI Magnum Primers in once shot Federal brass.

My group at 50 yards produces my first 2 shots touching, the third was a flyer on my part of the shooting. My rifle is also sighted in at 100 yards with 180 gr bullets.

I'm kinda excited that I was able to reload ammunition for specific uses now. 110 grain bullets are gonna reek havoc on groundhogs this year. :D

Bang Bang I really like Speer's 30 cal. 130gr.HP on ground hogs.Works great on eastern white tails to.

Congratulations. I just recently experienced the same thing. My wife laughed because she said I had the dumbest grin on my face after running out my first mag of my own ammo. I find that I like loading as much as I like shooting.

I'm hoping that this will get me to shoot more. I'm really tight with my money, I very seldom break down and spend $20 to shoot a box of ammo through just for fun. Usually, one shot is enough for me with a rifle. That one shot is just checking zero before hunting season.

I have never been much on target practice. I know my limits with my rifles and pistols on what I can and can't hit. I hope that reloading will make my "can-hit" ranges longer and my "can't-hit" ranges shorter.

Gentlemen,

I do believe Bang Bang is hooked.

Hey Bang Bang, Practice makes perfect, Mate.

Don't look now Bang Bang but you are on a venture to find that perfect bullet. And it will never end.

And Oh Yeah, he's hooked for life!!! :D

First off, where you finding 300WM for $20 a box?

Be sure to visit your local range before hunting season to scoop up free brass from those sloppy enough to leave it behind. Also, I'd suggest you move to a 223 or 22-250 for cheaper bullets, smaller powder charges and the same effect on the ground hogs. Considering 300WM bullet prices, a 223 would quickly pay for itself on a good groundhog season.

jeepmor,

The 300WM for $17 a box is at Wally World. Federal Power Shock, the blue box stuff. Cheap, but shot rather well in my rifle.

Not really any local ranges around here. Only one I can think of is 40 miles from my house. I have plenty of land to shoot on, no need to drive and spend more money to shoot. I'll buy factory ammo and save the brass for now, or even buy new brass.

And on the .223, I have actually been thinking about it...

Another Stevens Model 200 or a Savage chambered in that round would really get a lot of use, both hunting and paper shredding.
