What a complete and utter misstatement of the law.:banghead:
1. In many states the "stand your ground" laws merely represent restatements of existing law. E.g., Indiana abolished the duty to retreat, which was very weak, entirely in 1865 by Supreme Court decision.
After Flordia became the first state in the Union to abolish the duty to retreat, Indiana, for some unknown reason, codified the lack of a duty to retreat.
2. Professor Sebok, I pray that your quotation is a misrepresentation (the law allows citizens to kill over property). If not, that is the most inane misstatement of the law that the New York Times (and they have made have a bunch) has printed.
3. The effect and impact of the Florida statute, especially as to one's domicile, is completely off base.
I believe the reporter called the Brady Bunch and wrote down what he was told to write. This is beyond sloppy reporting and goes well into agitprop.
