I'm not sure what the Colonel considers "high capacity" for the M16, but I would advise him to stay with the standard 20- and 30-round military versions. Yes, there are 40-round magazines available for the M16, and from what I have read they are not reliable. I would prefer to have 30 rounds that shoot over 40 rounds that want to stay in the box.

Besides, the magazines I had in Vietnam were 20-rounders. To me, 30 rounds is very high capacity. :)

Ok, correction on my part... I just talked to his brother last night and he is a LT Colonel, not a Colonel. Also, he is going to training in a month, not directly to the sandbox, apparently it's his first time running a combat unit and he will be in training for a few months for his new duties/responsibilities before he goes to Iraq. So that may be why he was asking about higher cap mags, not knowing what to expect. I think he was in logisitcs before this so it will be a completely different job experience for him.

as one said this has odor

Perhaps you should go back and reread my posts, I am not asking for any handouts for the guy and he didn't even know I was asking on this board about his question. He asked his brother if he knew anyplace to get higher capacity mags and his brother asked me. I took it upon myself to ask here to see if I could find him a place that was giving a military discount as I remembered people posting previously for other vendors doing discount/expedited shipping deals for things such as scopes, etc. So, this being the high road I will stop there and not say anything further except if you don't have anything constructive to add please don't waste y(our) time on this thread.

Thanks again to everyone that had constructive suggestions especially the other equipment he might want to take with him. You've had some great ideas that I certainly wouldn't have thought of being a civilian whose onley (remote) military exp has been high school Civil Air Patrol activities and a lot of bad video games.
