An invitation from a friend to stop by Sunday afternoon for an informal shoot and grill out lead to my taking one of my ROA'S, a Bond derringer and my VEPR AK-47. A Ruger P89 DC, a Sig .223 black rifle, a Ruger LC9 and a Smith 60 showed up too, increasing the fun. Oddly enough, my ROA fascinated everyone, given the details of safe loading techniques, and the smoke and flame from the muzzle. We were all tickled to see the occasional doughnut ring of smoke shoot away from the muzzle, drift up and kiss the leaves of a close-by tree. No recoil to speak of, and extremely accurate ( round ball ahead of a Wonder Wad and a light charge of fff American Pioneer) even for a gentleman who had never shot black powder. Folks, I love my cartridge guns but as many of you may agree, Black Powder is the way to go for just pure pleasure. I wish I had developed this interest when I was half my current age, back when the ROA's were $200 new and caps were $1.00 a tin on sale. I've got lots of time to make up for... Don
