"The gun control issue is on the move, and the politicians want in."
- Chicago Sun Times, February 11, 2008
Dear Marty,
This is truly the year for your Brady Campaign and for common sense gun laws.
First, Congress passed, and the President signed, the NICS bill to strengthen the Brady criminal background check system.* Your support made it happen.
Then, a number of Congressional allies stepped up and introduced additional legislation.* Common sense gun laws, like closing the gun show loophole.
Your Brady Campaign is on a roll.* We need your support today to pass*strong gun laws!
On January 29, Senators Lautenberg (NJ) and Reed (RI) introduced gun show legislation to keep criminals and other dangerous persons from buying and selling guns without a background check. Brady President Paul Helmke and Virginia Tech families and victims joined the Senators at their widely covered press conference.*
And now, The New York Times has called for the presidential candidates to "demand an end to unlicensed gun shows and demand that Congress show courage."
You see, after years of domination by gun lobby foot soldiers, America has turned the corner on the gun issue.* Lawmakers are supporting our common sense agenda.* That's why we need your support now.
Last week, Senator Kennedy (MA) and Representative Becerra (CA) introduced a national microstamping bill giving police officers cutting edge identification technology to solve gun crimes.* Thanks to Chapter activism and law enforcement support, your Brady Campaign passed a similar bill in California last fall.* Now we are taking this life-saving technology nationwide.*
Please help keep the momentum in Congress.
Help us strengthen the Brady background check system
and pass common sense gun laws now.
Please donate to the Brady Campaign today.
One more thing … and this is not to be believed. The gun lobby and its allies in the Senate are pressing to pass a guns in parks bill that would loosen gun restrictions in national parks and refuges and allow in unloaded, hidden handguns.* That's more of the same from the gun pushers:* any gun, anywhere, at any time.* But your Brady Campaign is pushing back calling on the Senate and the Interior Secretary to reject this ridiculous and dangerous bill.*
Our call for your support is urgent.* The toll on America's families seems to grow daily.* Five women shot to death in a clothing store in Tinley Park, Illinois; a SWAT officer and three family members murdered in a siege in Los Angeles; two police officers and three city officials gunned down in Kirkwood, Missouri; and most recently, two students shot in class at Louisiana Technical College by a fellow student.
This is the time to strengthen gun laws.* This is time for legislative action.* Please make a gift today.
Sincerely,
Sarah Brady, Chair

I just got that one too. I guess they don't know Congress just showed where they stand, or that 31 states filed for Heller.

Oh wait. They do know. It's on their own blog, and they are having their noses rubbed in it. I forgot. :D

AHHH! That shooting in Tinley Park, and the one at the campus in Illinios Could not of happened! Remember handguns are illegal in Chicago and carrying one on a campus is too!
