I am a Georgia resident traveling to Indiana in a couple weeks to visit relatives. I plan on dropping in on the INDY 1500 gun show in Indianapolis. I realize I wont be able to buy a handgun with out sending it to a FFL in Georgia, but surely I can buy a long gun without restrictions if I see something I like? Do I have to buy from a dealer, or can I do a private party transaction? I assume there will be both private parties and dealers at the show.

You must have the rifle/shotgun transferred to you by a licensed dealer. Both the laws of Georgia and the laws of Indiana must be followed. Receiving ANY firearm directly from a private party who not a resident of the same state as you are is a violation of Federal law unless they are loaning it to you for sporting purposes, or it is an inheritance.
