I've got a Colt LE6920MP (flat top with Magpul furniture) coming to me next week. While I'm very familiar with zeroing in a bolt-action rifle with a scope, I don't know the best approach for getting my Colt dialed in.
For my .308, which obviously has a scope and no iron sights, I've got it zeroed at 100 yards with the scope nearly bottomed out. Pretty much standard procedure. But:
What's the "correct" zero range for a red-dot scope on a close-quarters rifle? (I will almost never shoot this AR past 100 yards, with <25 being the norm. If I ever had to use it in self-defense, it would be <10.)
Do you get the iron sights dialed in first, and then do the scope as a separate step so it matches?
The Colt has a regular F-marked front sight and Magpul backup rear sight. The scope is a Vortex SPARC.
