So I was perusing the racks of a local gun store and i spied a pristine Geweher 1888 commision rifle. So I look closer and it turns out to be an 1890 Spandu with an S marking on the chamber (which means it can fire modern 8mm mauser). The rifle has been turked, but not badly, with no major alterations done (it still uses the packet loading system). And the best part?, $159 out the door. My lucky day!

Very nice! Looks pretty clean from the pics.

I've got a carbine that's been bubba'd a little, also S marked. Boy, does that thing buck! Mine is an 1892 Schilling.

Lucky you! I've always been fond of the 88 but hesitant due to the price for its lack of being able use IS in it. Quite a sleek looking, smooth-flowing rifle you've got there.

Just look for an S stamp on the receiver. If it's there, you're good to go.

And BTW, you'll confuse people using I Patrone nomenclature. I know the debate as to whether it's a J or I is unresolved and leans toward I, but most people still believe it to be a J.
