Glock 30 beside 23

Still deciding:cuss: I am seriously driving myself nuts over this decision. So from what i've found is that the .40 has almost the same amount of knock down power, is faster, a little more accuracy and has better penetration. The .45 has more knock down and seems to be a little more controllable. Anyone else care to chime in would be greatly appreciated.

Both are still handgun cartridges. The 9mm vs 40 vs 45 caliber has been done to death, and a Google search will turn up more redundant info than you can read in a week.

Some will argue the .45 is more powerful. It's also in a bigger, heavier platform and holds fewer rounds.

The .40 is smaller, holds more rounds, and cheaper to shoot. If you think it's not powerful enough, pull the trigger again.

Yes and you are right. I have looked at dozens of treads and posts on the subject until it makes me sick. I really have no clue which one to get. I have never shot a 40 and am concerned about the recoil compared to a 45 (i've heard it's snappy, harder to get back on poa and that it is superior to a 45's recoil)

The Glock 23 is the Alpha and the Omega of compact service class pistols.

Be sure to get a real Glock 23, none of that GEN4 heresy.

Yea I don't really like the Gen 4's. Not that they arn't fine weapons just not for me. If I do go with the 23 I still can't decide whether or not to get the RTF. I haven't had to chance to fondle it yet.

Between these two in particular I'd say the .40 may FEEL a tiny bit snappier but the .45 has MORE overall recoil (but you could argue that it feels 'slower'). The G30 is a pretty light gun with a heavy slide moving back and forth. It's no pussycat to shoot. But it's not painful by any means.

I'd wager that if you blindfolded a bunch of people and had them shoot both guns back to back they'd say the .45 kicked more. The .40 has more muzzle concussion, particularly in cold weather... which bothers me but doesn't a lot of other people.

I think the .40 is snappier, but still faster back on target than the .45, if that makes any sense at all. The G30 wasn't bad recoil-wise, but the main thing I noticed was the muzzle flip.

About the frame though, I would get the smooth/standard one, if you have a choice. That way, if you want a rough texture, you can stick on some Talon / Decal Grip panels. With the RTF it's always going to be rough, and if it rubs you raw the only option you have is permanently modifying the frame by sanding it down.

That makes a lot of sense, great idea John I will definitely not get the RTF. So, still deciding haha I feel like such a kid being so indecisive.:p

I'm debating the same caliber issues for a CC southeastshooter.

Forget about ballistics of .40 vs .45, they are so close that it really depends on the ammo that is being used. (and gel tests are gel tests but I stop right there)

I STRONGLY suggest you go shoot the .40 before you decide. I carry a .40 at work and have shot a lot of that caliber but I really like the felt recoil of the .45 much better.

BUT thats me, recoil is subjective.

Go shoot a .40, every range has a few to rent.

Alright fellas sorry for the delay. I ordered a NIB Glock 30 from Bud's on Friday. It should be here sometime next week according to the man who helped me. So i'll give an update and some pics when I get it. I'm so excited for my first handgun! It will complement my other weapons nicely i'm sure, thanks for all the help guys it aided me in my final decision.
