Glock improvements across the model range in 2008

This is old and new news.

I handled a G21 short frame with the ambidextrous mag release at a gun shop today and was really impressed.

The grip reduction made the frame fit perfectly in the hand. Handling the standard G21 showed the obvious difference between the two versions. Apparently, the SF, or "short frame," versions will become available across the model range in 2008, with the G30 the next available model.

I was equally impressed by the new ambidextrous mag release. It protrudes equally from each side of the frame. Pressing in on either side depresses a hinged mag catch, releasing the mag. The design appears robust. New mags are shipping for most if not all models with the ambi release cut.

I can do without the picatinny rail, and thankfully permutations of the G21 are available with the standard Glock rail.

The only other across the board modification I would like to see are radiused slides at the muzzle, a la G26, etc.

I look forward to a G20 short frame with an ambi mag release in 2008. Add a KKM .40 barrel and an AA .22 conversion kit and you have the perfect pistol for hunting, home defense, competition and plinking.

I'm waiting for a G30SF to make it's way to a local dealer.

I'm not a fan of the radiused slides. (Personal preference!)
I'd love to have the G30SF with the same slide profile as the G19 and/or the G21 (which I already own. . . both!)


The G30 SF will more than likely follow me home.

The ambi release catches onto a slot cut into the front center of the magazine. It doesn't use the catch on the right front corner, at all. The new mags have that catch only for backwards compatability. Since the old mags do not have the front center slot, there is nothing for the ambi release to catch onto. But that's nothing that a Dremel can't fix.
 
Oooh, yeah. I've been wanting a 10mm something or other. A slimmer-framed 20 would be just perfect.

Would this go for the 17 as well? I'd really like something with a slightly longer grip than my 19, but with the same grip circumference (I think that's the difference?).

I’d like to see a G20 SF too. But Glock could leave the ambi mag release off.
 
The regular G20 is too big for me ( and my other half Mochi_Glock) to handle, and I'm not alone.

A G20 SF would turn a lot more people onto Glocks and the 10mm cartridge.
9mm and 10mm are my favorite cartridges and more 10mm fans/buyers mean more gun owners!


Although, people say that a G29 SF wouldn't make any sense.

In keeping with the SF theme. Should Glock offer a G29 SF.. a G20 SF should follow.
 
When they say "across the model range in 2008" does that also mean their smaller caliber guns also? I think a G19 or 23 could benefit from a short(er) frame too. I mean maybe reduce the buldge a bit? Or maybe we'll finally see some more single stack CCW designs?

After owning 2 Glocks, I love everything about them except the grip and how it feels. I even find that the finger grooves on the frontstrap are ok..it's just the backstrap that makes them feel weird IMO. A short frame mod to either a G19 or 23 would make me go purchase both tomorrow:)
 
Hopefully, they will leave the 19 and 17 alone. I'd prefer if my stash of mags for those weapons weren't incompatible with future models of Glock 9s.

One thing Glock is not afraid to do, is to add to their assortment of the basic platform. Given the positive feedback on the SF variant, they will no doubt apply this option to the rest of the line (where it makes sense), popular models first.

I'll take a hard look at a G30SF, as well! But if the "SF" variant isn't applied to the G29, will a 10 mm caliber conversion work for this rig?

I prefer the standard Glock rail as well.

Anecdotal: I first noticed the Picatinny rail on a Glock, on a DVD action movie jacket, weeks before they became generally available.

When I flattened the backstrap on my G19, the change in comfort was immediately noticeable. It was an "a ha" moment.

I'm kinda diggin' this 'SF' thing from Glock...actually contemplating picking one up...also kinda makes up for that whole GAP thing :rolleyes:
 
All they need now is an ambi slide stop, adjustable grip, way to field strip w/o pulling the trigger, and a manual safety option to be "state of the art" again. ;)
 
Someone email me when the 20SF is available for purchase. That will be a must have for me. I handled a 21SF at a gun show recently and was quite impressed with the difference in grip. If I did not have so much custom work into my regular 21 I would have swapped.
