I'm not sure if that's exactly what it's called, but I have a question regarding that little piece that has the little retaining pin plate that sits in the inside of the base plate and has a raised part that locks into the hole.

I recently disassembled all of my Glock mags (pain in the butt) and in doing so, I tore up those plates pretty bad. The actual raised part that locks into the hole under the logo and the areas around it are pretty marred from where I pushed a skinny metal screwdriver through the hole. It didn't break or anything and seems to be holding up okay, but still, it's pretty badly scratched, and I'm talking pretty deep scratches.

I was wondering, how many more strips do you think I have left before I need to replace them? Do you guys think I'll be okay with the ones in there? I don't think these things are made of the same polymer the frame is made of, it scratches and gashes pretty deep, pretty easily. The marks are THAT bad. I should have taken pictures, but taking them apart again is gonna be a pain and I'll probably damage them even more.

Any advice is appreciated.

Don't remember which model it was but for one of mine the little plate you're referring to actually rests on an inner lip just inside the mag. That makes pressing the plate downward impossible. A design like that is absolutely absurd to be. After struggling for a long time with no success, I finally took a very shape knife and basically slit the bottom plate along the seam where it meets the body. That's when I discovered the lip the little plate rests on. For the other four mags I didn't even try to to remove them properly, I just slit them and popped them off.

I was replacing all the end caps with Pearce ones and I really didn't want the OEM ones anyway. I had several spares of the correct size from other similar mags.

But if you need to, you can buy Glock brand replacements for both. Lone Wolf sell them for $3.75 each which seems like highway robbery but if you need them .......

Yeah both of you are right, that's the part. The butt retaining plate or whatever. The thing is, they still work, but are pretty marred up. I just don't know if it's a good idea to continue using them as is or if I should get replacements. $3.75 each seems a bit ridiculous, in comparison to just buying whole new mags.

Mag inserts okay that's what they're called. I think the reason I marred them up is because the screwdriver. Is the bottom of the Glock punch made of rubber or soft plastic or something? Because if it's made of metal, it's going to scratch it up just the same.

I did use the GTUL, btw, great tool to disassemble Glock mags.
