glock vs ruger

I'm a Ruger man when it comes to revolvers, but I would not buy an SR9 over a Glock. The Glock reputation is the stuff of legend. I don't think that *any* pistols can quite live up to Glock's reputation, not even Glocks. While I think Glocks are slightly over-rated, I would still consider Glocks as being some of the finest Handguns available today. The SR9 could be a winner, but the guns are too new to say for sure. Right now, I would buy a G19 or a G17 over the SR9.

Ruger vs Glock? Hmm, well here goes. The SR-9 is probably gonna end up being a nice design for them somewhere down the road, but of course only time can be the judge of that. I would strongly caution you away from it at this time though. Why? Ruger IMO has a well earned reputation for foisting their product on the market well before the bugs have been worked out. Perhaps you've read one of the recent gunrag reviews pertaining to the SR-9 and left with a sense of having discovered pistol nirvana! Trust me, you haven't. These rags are just this side of propaganda as it pertains to reporting the truth, and when it comes to reporting on any Ruger firearm, I and many other like minded lads feel the telling is more to the tall side. As to Glock being worth more, well the market perception is that they are. The reality is, Glock owns the LE market, whether you like them or hate them, they rule the LEA roost. This is one of the reasons you'll hear gunwriter's use phrase's like "aimed directly at the LE market" or "Ruger's first serious entry" ect..you get the idea. If you're really looking for a new pistol, to my mind you actually have better choices from Ruger then the new SR-9. I'd look to the P-89 which has been around for almost two decades and was actually carried by at least one major LEA, the P-95, while an ugly mutt, is a well proven ugly mutt. Either of which is far less likely to give you the trouble that in my opinion you'll have coming from the SR-9...:uhoh:

Another vote for the Glock 19.

Small enough to conceal well, big enough to serve as a duty weapon, plenty of capacity for its size, lightweight, tough, reliable, and accurate. The proven design is backed by a tremendous aftermarket of accessories. G17/18 magazines can be used when more capacity is needed/wanted. Tennifer finish is very corrosion resistent. The Glock is easy to field strip and clean. It is also easy to detail strip for repair, installation of upgrades, and detail clean.

The fact that both you and your wife use the same system is an advantage. Your pistols, mags, parts, and ammo is interchangeable.

The 9mm cartridge in itself is an advantage. It is cheaper to buy, allowing more training with rounds downrange. More training leads to higher proficieny. The 9mm cartridge is also extremely popular. Where ever ammunition is sold, you will find 9mm, if in stock. Defensive ammo of today has been proven to be effective against live threats. There are many different weights and styles to choose from. While it may not be the most effective defense caliber, it is still effective. Shot placement is king, not caliber.
Should you get into reloading, 9mm is very easy to reload. Wealths of 9mm load data can easily be found online as well as in every current load manual that covers pistol calibers. You can easily cut your ammo costs in half by reloading, I did.

I think you made a good decision. The Ruger SR9 looks like it is a good pistol, only time will tell. The recall turned me off of them. It doesn't look like it is going to fade away, so if you decide that you want one in the future, there should be plenty available.

Good Luck

Fact for most

...

Half the_battle is how the handgun fits (best) in "your grip" vs another.. The other battle is on the_looks of such, said, weapon..

IF you can agree on the_2, you've found your weapon of choice and desire..

Go with both (your choice, not others) and you should be totally happy,

Enjoy,

I hate glocks... But I love my G19. Glocks are rock solid, uber reliable, and the G19 is probably the best Glock made. Just my personal preference, but hey, you asked

I am relatively new to guns and about to get a new 9mm im almost positive im going to get either a glock19 or a ruger sr9.

At the risk of offending all the experts, no one on this, or any other forum can answer your question. We can all offer our experiences and opinions (biases). You have to answer the question for yourself.

Old thread, now you have even a better option get the Ruger SR9C feels great in the hand easier to carry improved trigger and its also very accurate.

Respectfully, I disagree.

First and foremost, one must decide what purpose the handgun will serve:
Hunting? Self-defense? Concealed carry? Open Carry? Home defense only? Range plinking?
Etc....
That should narrow the field of possible choices.

Then one must try to actually shoot each of the contenders.

The one you shoot best is probably the best choice.
THE ONE YOU SHOOT BEST.
Not necessarily the one that feels best in your grip.
If "gun A" feels best in your grip, but you actually shoot "gun B" better, then "gun B" is the better choice.

As for the original question, Glock 17 vs Ruger SR9:

I recommend Glock.

It has been proven a thousand times over.
It's also easy for anyone to work on without the need to send the gun to the manufacturer or a gunsmith.
And the after-market support of parts and accessories for Glock is way better than for Ruger.

Good luck,

Thread revival to no good purpose

This topic was pretty well thrashed out nearly a year and a half ago. There's little use in repeating the same stuff over and over.
