Well today I went to the club to try a few different loads in my Pietta 58' NMA with the 5.5" barrel to see which one it likes the best.
Well it has been favoring the left quite a bit which I figured that I'd cure soon enough but grouping was my goal, I wanted to get it shooting close to 1 to maybe 1.5" groups at 25 yards.
Goex FFFG
Pyrodex P
Cast .457 143gr. ball
Remington #11
Lubed wads, different makes "Cabelas, Ox Yoke, BP Stuff"
Well after shooting some 25gr., 30gr. & even 35gr. loads I found that this little puppy likes a little on the heavy side charge where the 30gr. charge of FFFG was my best grouping of 2" but still 2.25" left & slightly high "thought I had filed a little too much of the front sight" but I ran out of wads & wanted to try a few more cylinders so instead of calling it a day I proceeded to load 30gr. Ball then a touch of Bore Butter over the ball.
MAN did it make a difference, my left string was straightened up to POA with just a slight 1" low impact, after 2 more cylinders to be sure it wasn't me I'm convinced that this Remington copy does not like Wads at all but does like a 30gr. FFFG Goex charge with a pretty consistent 2" ish group at 25 yards & this is between 2 different cylinders.
Just goes to show that some times different ways of loading can make a difference in the outcome of the load.
