Good thing the govt agencies had so much practice

Hey Yeager

The mayor was doing his job. He is screaming that the feds are letting his city be destroyed.

Do you think that a National Guard general is going to take orders from a city mayer? No.

This F***** up plan is being run by people that have never benn in the city in their lives.

It's Nagan's city. He should be running it. This man has done a lot to get rid of the rampant corruption and problems in NOLA.

This is just coming from a guy 40 miles away from it all that listens to the New Orleans mayor on a radio interview break down crying because the feds won't let him do a darn thing. They are allowing his city to be destroyed.

PERIOD. And you can take that to the bank.

"Heck, I could drive a bus. We could probably get volunteers from here to drive for as long as needed.""

You could drive until you ran out of gas, then what would you do? Where would you get the gas to get back even if you had enough to get there? How much gas would it take to run enough vehicles to evacuate the estimated 50,000 to 100,000 still in New Orleans? How much would it take to do the other 10,000 or so square miles?

Nice idea, but not a workable plan IMO.

"The problem here is that there apears to be a serious vacume in leadership on the local end"

And again, I've been looking at the people on the news and most of them LOOK like they arent the leader types, most of them look like the woe is me types. Like the I can't/won't find a job type. Like the it's the govs job to save my sorry butt because i'm descrimated against type.

In my experience welfare recipitants don't usually have the take charge personality.

Which a lot of these people are i'm guessing because their excuse for not leaving is that they have no money to do so.

Again, not the take charge and lead type, more like the sheeple type.

And were do sheeple come from? Anyone?

Bayou Boy,

I am not one to point fingers. This is an unprecedented event, and that tends to breed confusion. But if the Mayor, and the locals were as competent as you say, why the complete lack of local preparation. Real commen sense stuff. For instance:

1) There seem to have been no earthmoving equipment, or sandbagging equipment or city personnel tasked with springing into action when a storm approaches. It appears that the plan was to sit and stare at the levee and pray that it didn't break. I'm not saying they could have stopped the water, but there seems to be no planning at all.

2) Why were there no emergency water supplies. Near as I can tell, there weren't any. Not one that I could find. Many other cities have this capability. It would seem like a slamdunk to have tanks that are ready to be pumped with water in the event of a water interruption. They could have been filled when the storm approached.

3) Other then standing on the roof, yelling run, there seems to have been no organized evacuation plan. None. And it's not like it is a mystery that large segments of NO population cannot transport themselves. Again, this is something that needed to be prepared ahead of time.

4) How is there no backup communication system for emergency, fire, and police? Battery or generator powered?

5) How is there no emergency food supply? None. I can understand it falling short, but there appears to be none, other then looting Wallmart.

When the local's have not planned, it seems unfair to blame the Fed's. The locals know their situation, the Fed's don't.

I don't want to point fingers, but this finger pointing at the Fed's is absurd. It takes time to ramp up and prepare. We are talking tens of thousands of people here. Getting food and water to them is a logistical challenge, especially in light of the fact that there are no roads, ports, rail or airports open. The only way in is by helicopter, and that asset is fully utilized moving people off of roofs and the sick out of the hospitals.

All the fingerpointers seem not to realize the challenges here, which is why they offer little in the way of suggestions. Sort of like the NO mayor. Lot's of complaints, few concrete specific suggestions.

What you have here is the legacy of Huey Long.
If the Kingfish was here he would know what to do.
