Being as how it's the middle of August, seriously hot & humid, not too much shakin', etc., one of my buddies mentioned that his brother was 'kinds into guns' and wanted to go shooting when he visited this week, so we planned to go to the NRA range today.

I got there a little early and was exercising my newest acquisition - a CZ 75D PCR, and my Kimber Cusomt Royal (W/Brazos Lightning Rod & MMC adj. rear sights). Dudes show up about 20 minutes late, join the NRA, take the range safety test, and finally make it to the firing line. My friend's brother is carrying a large rifle case, large Hliburton-type case, mid-sized playmate cooler, Friend is carrying a Bersa .380 & TC Contender in 30-30.

So 'kinda into guns' bro pops open rifle case, and lo & behold, a pistolero's smorgasbord - Ruger .40 &.45, scoped Taurus Raging Hornet, S&W 686 (8"), scoped Ruger Super Redhawk .44mag, Magnum Research .450 Marlin(!!), some other revolver w/.22/.22 mag cylinders, scoped Ruger .22 (10"). The other case had an Encore w/30/06, .45LC, 44 mag barrels.

I'm not really a revolver guy, as most of my experience has been with either small calibers or magnums with barrels 4" or less, but after today, I may have to rethink . . .The long barrled .357 was a pussycat, and the Super Redhawk was brisk, but hardly abusive. Now the .450 Marlin - Great hoogilley-boogilley!!!!! - that puppy is a handful, but what an absolute hoot to shoot. It's a big, heavy revolver, and it absolutely takes two hands, but it I was suprised that it wasn't hard to shoot accurately, at least for the 25 rounds I put thru it:D :D :D BTW, lighting that pup off gets everyone's attention, and brother Steve was most generous in letting several other folks have a turn.

FWIW, next time there's a "What handgun for bear" thread, I have a suggestion . . .

At any rate, we had a great time, range wasn't crowded so we were able to shoot for a bit over two hours, and I vastly expanded my repetoire. I went thru about 500 rounds, ranging from 9mm, .357. 44 mag, .45acp, .45LC, .22 LR/mag/ Hornet, 30-30, 30/06, and the mighty .450 Marlin. My palm is still tingling, my wrist is sore, and I just can't stop grinning (at least my wife knows where I was today . . .)

I want a big bore revolver.:D
