Got my hands on the next gen Glock today

We came into work a little early today to go shoot at my depts monthly shooting competition. When I show up at the range the Glock rep is standing there with the new Glock full size .40 (assuming its still the 22 but didnt really look).

First thing I noticed from the outside is the texture on the grip. Its similar to the spiky RTF grip but its not spiky. Small flat squares all around and it provided a good grip. The magazine ejection button is bigger as well.

Next thing was that it had interchangeable backstraps. Guy said it came with three sizes. He only had one there so I couldnt compare the others but it felt slimmer than my duty 22 so he must have had the small one on.

The big difference though was the inside. The new recoil spring is a multi spring unit like the 27 uses. But this one has three springs supposedly. It had the big spring with a smaller one sticking out of it similar to the 27 but they said there is a third spring inside the big spring.

I didnt get to shoot it as he was on the way out but the guys that did said the recoil reduction was quite noticeable. The guy did say though that the new frames and slides wont work with the older ones.

Glock jumping on the interchangeable backstrap train? Gosh, I might find a Glock that I can get to fit my hands!

If the interchangeable backstraps don't address or fix the "it points high" issue that so many people have, then it is meaningless.

I don't know if 'slides and frames are not interchangeable with old ones' is a good idea. There's a BIG cottage industry of aftermarket Glock stuff, this could create a divide.

If they ever stop producing the current lineup, I can see prices for used GLOCKS going way up.

Are they still using the polygonal rifling in the barrels? That's always been the main deterrent for me due to the fact that i can't shoot lead. Yeah i know i can buy an aftermarket barrel, but why spend the extra $140 on a new barrel for a new gun just so i can shoot lead reloads.
The interchangeable back straps is interesting though. That should help alleviate the 2x4 feel of the larger glock models and help fit many different people's hands better.

Did they by chance notice the gun doesn't need to be so wide now matter what size frame or caliber it was? Yes i know about the 1 slim that many hate,but id like to see more options for ccw from Glock.

GLOCK purists ranted for months about that. Change kills. The end is near.

Until the bottom of the grip doesn't swell back so much, AND the recess for the webbing of the hand at the top of the grip gets filled in so that the darn things don't point 15* high each time, I won't buy one.

But if they fixed that, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
