Thanks for all your advise.

I went with the LCP. Cheaper, smaller, lighter than the rest. I like the CM9 and almost bought the P238 (shoots nice, looks awesome, was the best deal % wise and $ off the list price). Also I am used to pocket carrying the 642 so I feel that the single action with manual safety of the P238 wouldn't be ideal.

In the end I didn't want something that was about the same size as my 642 Jframe. I wanted something I could use those situations where the 642 is too big (I know it is a small gun but there are times when I wish it where smaller or lighter)

I have and LCP and a Bodyguard. The Bodyguard is worth the extra money to me for several reasons.

1. I like the size of the BG better. It conceals just as easy but the little bit of extra size makes the BG easier to shoot.
2. Way superior sights on the BG.
3. The trigger of the BG is better. There is no possibility of short stroking the BG and getting a dead trigger. That makes it better to me.
4. The chamber of the BG is about 3 times thicker than the LCP if measured at their thinnest point. I would wager most of you would be shocked if you knew how thin that barrel truly is.
5. Most importantly the LCP, like the P3AT, is limited in what ammo it can safely use by "smileys". That is the next round in the magazine tends to hit the bottom of the feed ramp when the previous round is fired. This will normally distort the JHP hurting its performance or worse will set the bullet back. My LCP will set XTPs back significantly. Gold Dots and Hydrashoks don't get set back but the JHPs do get pretty mangled. NONE of this happens with the BG.

That being said I do still like my LCP and it has been 100% reliable with over 500 rounds fired. It is also much more accurate than it has any right to be.

You may also notice I didn't list the laser as a bonus for the BG. It's neat but I can certainly live without it. In fact it quite working shortly after I bought it and I haven't bothered to get it fixed.

Great comments and thanks you owners.

I have enough pocket guns to last a lifetime but pragmatically I am always intersted on the latest. I still would probably do a Rohrbaugh R9 above many of these.

I still have a question for the 238 folks. Great looking gun. My favorite to look at. Do you carry these IWB? I just don't see carring these in the pocket cocked and locked and I can tell you that otherwise it is slow in coming to arms and release. You will be flat out before you move the slide.

PX15 wonder why you did the ruger with CT when you could have done the S&W?

For the money you can't beat a LCP from what I have read.

While not on your list I handled a Taurus .380 the other day and think that it might be my next CCW purchase.Blackened stainless slide and black poly frame.Much like the Ruger LCP but slightly ahead of it IMHO. Give it a look.tom.
Much better trigger than the LCP.

Why can't you carry it cocked and locked in the pocket? My 238 is only pocket carried, and cocked and locked always. I carry it in a pocket holster.

Trust me, the safety is NOT coming off in your pocket. It's VERY positive and tight, taking a good bit more pressure to click off than a 1911 safety. Try the safety on one out and your fears will immediately be alleviated. It's tight enough that if a 1911 safety were like that, you'd probably send it back to the manufacturer and complain. However, it's that way because it's designed to be in a pocket where a safety is going to get banged around all day.

In answer to your question as to why I got the LCP and put a CT Laser on it when I could have had the S&W with the integrated laser?

Well, I got the LCP before the S&W came out if memory serves. I liked it so much I added the CT laser, and then I saw another LCP with the "Innovative Arms" slide refinish, external sight upgrade and I had that done to.

I like Smiths in general, (have several 3rd Gen Smiths), but I really don't care for a pistol with a built in laser.. That's just me.

We liked our first LCP so well we bought two more. My wife has hers (w/laser engraved slide), and I have another regular one.

My buddy came along with a new LC9, and I bought one of those too, and it's a very, very good 9MM sub-compact pistol. It's like the LCP on steroids.

I think the Smith is probably a fine choice.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

The only reason I own my P238 is pocket carry. If I'm going to IWB carry, it's going to be one of my 1911s. Like Harmon I have absolutely no fears that the safety could disengage, even if it did it's in a pocket holster that covers the trigger.

Before I had ever handled a 238 in person, I had the same fear actually. The first time I handed one and tried the safety, my fear flew out the window.

I really like my LCP. I have other pistols I can and do carry but the LCP is always so easy to drop in a pocket. Even when wearing shorts it just disappears. Shooting it was difficult at first but once I got a couple hundred rounds through it and got used to it I enjoy shooting it. I can fire 100 rounds in a session with no discomfort. It also took awhile to get used to the minimal sights but that's no real problem, just takes a bit of practice. I routinely hit a paper plate at 25yds so that ought to be good enough for this kind of pistol. BTW - a think I discovered is that the easiest way to get the sights lined up in the vertical plane is to look down the top of the slide. It's flat so you can easily tell when you're looking just down it. If the front sight is too high you'll see some of the top of the slide, just lower it until you're looking down the slide and don't quite see it's top and you have the front and rear sights at the same elevation. It took me a bit to discover this but it really helped me get on target faster and shoot more accurately. Learning to stroke smoothly through the trigger to fire the pistol also takes some practice too. It is pretty satisfying to tame the little gun, and it can be done. No need for a laser just learn to shoot this thing. Mine has been through more than 800 rounds and hasn't hiccupped yet.

i went through 2 kahr's and a keltec before i hit paydirt with this puppy. i find no problems concealing it in a pocket.
