I tried searching, but couldn't get it to work, so I hope this has not been covered a bunchy of times. Has anyone swapped out the front sight on a Ruger GP 100? What did you use? My wife likes to shoot it, but doesn't like the sight, and she is going to start using it as a nightstand gun, so maybe something with some tritium would be a good idea. Any suggestions?

I have used Millet orange front sight and the Ruger Red insert front sight that is $13.

I saw that www.midwayusa.com had a meprolight sight set for the GP100. But, they are kind of pricey, like $140. I wish meprolight would make the front sight available seperate from the rear sight.

Doesn't Ashley Express have a GP100 sight? Maybe they just have the front sight for the SP101?

Anyway. When you get your new front sight and you are ready to change it out: remember this. The front sight lifts straight out from the top of the gun. I have had a few people tell me they were having trouble getting it to come out but, they were trying to lift it out from one side. It just pulls straight up (after the plunger is depressed of course)

Keep in mind that Ruger Super Redhawk front sight inserts will also fit on an adjustable sight model GP100.

The Redhawk and Super Redhawk sights work. I replaced my front sight with a Redhawk plain black front sight. It is higher than the original sight, which I needed. Mine shoots very well. I also played with the hammer spring a little, replaced the trigger return spring with a slightly lighter Wolff spring, and smoothed up the internals. It now has a lighter double action trigger than my S&W Model 27-2, they are both very smooth, and the single action trigger pretty will matches the 27.

I replaced mine with a red insert ramp front sight that I ordered directly from Ruger. The rear is a Bowen Rough Country sight, which I highly recommend.
