Today, I helped my Dad buy his first handgun!

My dad got his CCW a few months ago. He finally decided he wanted a Sig for his carry gun an we spent the day going to local shops. He finally settled on a Sig P230SL, used, w/ two mags, for around $400. He liked the size of the gun and the way it felt in his hand. The price point was also a plus.

After running it buy the finance committee (my mom :) ) at dinner he got approval and we hurried back to the shop after dinner to pick it up.

I bought him a box of Hornaday XTP for carry, a box of FMJ to practice with, a blackhawk nylon IWB holster to get him started, and a plastic case to store it in (since the gun was used and didn't have a box).

After all the first things my dad helped me by in my lifetime, it was nice to be able to return the favor.

Make sure he practices with the XTP as well. Feeding FMJ reliably is not a guarantee of feeding JHP reliably (even for a Sig).

That is a cool way to spend a day! funny how things "turn" as years go by . Shows the best of life.

My sons, my wife, her Aunt and Uncle bought my carry gun when I turned 50. Been a constant companion for ten years now. I hope he enjoys shooting it...but never is forced to use for protection.

Let us know how the range trips go. :D

Man, I wish my son would buy me a gun. Come to think of it, get a job would be good; move out of the house? Hey, now we are getting there! Oh wait, he's only 19....

Seriously, that sounds awesome! Congrats on the gun! Let the noise making begin! Have fun practicing!
