Gun Realted Jobs

Might be looking at a serious career change and was wondering what kind of gun related jobs are out there these days. I'm not a professional "operator" and probably a mediocre shot so training and pro-competition are out. You can no longer run a garage based gun shop so I was thinking maybe a small shop with a variety of firearms, at least to start...maybe expand from there, but I'm not sure I want to deal with all the ATFE BS.

Any ideas?

I have a small home based 'gun related' business and have worked in a sporting goods retail business for 20 years.

I love my small home business and wished it would make a little more cash for the bills but, it doesn't so I still have to go to the day job.

The home business brings in the serious and better informed gun owner, shooter, hunter and I have made some close friends and learned alot from these people.

The day job unfortunantly brings in the other side. Complete idiots and misinformed people who don't care about anything but themselves.
Because I'm the guy on the other side of the counter I am supposed to listen and agree with everything they say, You can try to explain something to them all day and they will just argue with thier 'Gun magazine' facts. I quit trying to debate with these people years ago, I pretend I don't know ???? and now just get them what they want and move them out ASAP,

There are those few who come in that know whats going on and I enjoy having conversation with them during the slack time.

If i had it to do all over again I would not pick the job I have now.

The sad fact is that very few small gun shops make enough money to keep the owner in the necessities of life, let alone luxury. Almost all small shop owners have other jobs, usually not in the gun or sporting goods business. In other words, the gun shop is a hobby that at best pays little and at worst is subsidized by the day job, a situation that IRS frowns on.

If you are serious, forget a home business. Raise enough capital to get a store-front, get in some guns on consignment, and have at it. But run it as a business, not as a way for your "buddies" to cheat you by demanding you sell them guns at your cost.

You will soon find that if you don't like "BATFE BS", you sure won't like IRS BS, local zoning BS, state and local law BS, sales tax BS, OSHA BS, etc., etc.
