I would like to have a couple of handguns refinished in a brushed stainless looking finish. I have consider Robar's NP3 finish.

I'm looking for other possible finishes including hard chrome. Links/prices would be very helpful.

Thanks

Another dedicated Tripp fan here. I have sent 6 pistols his way, and all came back perfect. He's also a super 1911 pistolsmith if you want checkering, magwell, etc. while it's there.

My experience with NP3 on externals was not good. However, for internals on a rifle bolt, NP3 cannot be beat!

Be aware that hardchrome is impossible to do on aluminum or scandium/aluminum frames -- your best bet is hardchrome the steel and coat the other alloys (e.g. Cobra Coat, CCR's DuraCoat, etc.). I have several Sigs in this configuration, and they've all held up very well.

Thanks all. Please keep them coming. Anyone else with Mag-Na-Port experience. It is a Michigan company and I live there so I could probably save the cost of overnight FedEx or UPS shipping and drop it off directly at the factory. I am thinking on having a couple of Sigs done, so both do have aluminum frames.

Aluminum cannot be hardchromed.

All you can have done is the steel slides.

DevilDog0402,

Nice bit of webbrowsing, but since I have been conversing with and giving my business to Virgil Tripp for well over a decade, I'll still simplify it by again saying that "Aluminum cannot be hardchromed."

You may try to hardchrome electroless nickel, but you cannot put hardchrome directly onto aluminum.

I had a colt lwt cdr that I bobtailed hardchomed by mahovsky's metalife and it was outstanding. He did, as mentioned by someone else, nickel plate and then hard chrome the aluminum frame. It made the frame tough as heck and the ramp could be polished afterwards. I highly recommend his work and his price is competitive, 145.00 for a complete aluminum frame semi automatic handgun.

Tripp will not do aluminum he says it's not a good process, but mahovsky and apwcogan both will. I told Mahovsky what tripp said and he says he has been doing them that way for 30 years and has never had a problem. Apw cogan said the same thing and I think he said something like 25 years.

If I ever refinish aluminum again it will be metalife by mahovbsky, it's hands down the toughest finish for it:
