As I said in another thread, I've been on the hunt for a Commander-sized 1911 for a while now. All the local shops think that Colts are worth their weight in gold or something. Comparing features of several models, I'm leaning toward one of the following:

Smith and Wesson E-Series Scandium

Kimber Super Carry Pro

The only one of these I've actually held and priced out was the Sig, and dollar-for-dollar, it's leading coming out of the gate. I know a shop that will get me a decent price for the Kimber, and the Smith is... well, it's a Smith. They're nearly legendary and it would be a fantastic match for my much-beloved no-dash 686.

I've owned both sig and kimber both were excellant guns. The kimber was more accurate from a ransom rest, but offhand I shot the sig much better than I did the kimber. I've never shot a smith 1911 but I've held a few and never heard anything bad about them.

I voted E series because I own a full size all stainless one, and love it. I've not played with the commanders though. I know they are quite a bit more $ though. I'd gladly pick up a Sig though too. Kimbers are over priced IMO.

I carry a SIG RCS 1911 a CCO sized pistol, it is one of my best shooting 1911s despite it's smaller size. I have a friend that has a S&W E series, cost about $1300, you would think a pistol from S&W this expensive would have a decent trigger, think again. At least the trigger can be fixed, has been fixed. Kimber, never considered buying one, many people swear by them, or at them. Every one I have tried seem to function well looked great. I would narrow your search to 2 1911s, the SIG and maybe a Dan Wesson, of your choices the SIG is my choice.

I have a Sig C3. It is my favorite and best shooting 1911 of all of the ones I have owned over the years. It shoots very well for me for a smaller lightweight gun.

just my opinion, yours may vary

Picked up a SIG tac ops, TR slide last Spring on GunBroker. My first choice HAD been the E-Series, but even with LE Discount it was STILL less pistol for significantly more money, and they were not available. Put it on my Bud's list notification, and IIRC it just came available last week, after a 7 month wait?!

The SIG has rocked: customized the grips myself to replicate the 10-8 magazine drop scoop out, 10-8 rear site, 10-8 grip screws, and flat long pull trigger. TLR-1 and a drop-leg duty holster takes it to work. There is a GunBroker dealer who is rockin these OTD at 899 with free shipping, extra mags, holster, and zero CC fees. Just insane value. (Not to be confused with the Tac Pac, which sell for around 700 on GB.)

Aint pistol shoppin fun?! :D

For me it would be a toss up between the Sig and the Kimber. Both appeal to me by hitting different hot buttons.

Come to think of it, the rule of thumb for engagement rings is two month's salary, right? Why shouldn't that rule of thumb apply to something else that you plan on keeping around for a long time and will enjoy spending time with? So with that in mind, buy both!

And before anybody knocks my comparison to matrimony, keep in mind that 1911s can be picky eaters too.

I'd have to go with the SIG. Just something very "business-like" about its appearance.

I voted for the Sig, but think you should add larger ambi safety levers as soon as you get it. Those seem a little smaller than my big thumbs prefer, but it might just be the picture.
