help with a .22 revolver

My grandfather gave me his old Hawes Firearms Western Six Shooter pistol a few years ago and I am now finding the time to learn what I can about it. It has what looks like bone carved grips or a plastic molded not sure which. It also looks to be painted black and not blued as I would expect. Serial number on this gun is #60927. What's the story behind these. It also has "Germany" engraved on the side. Thanks for all your help. Great site!

These were built in Germany by Sauer & Son (Hawes was the US importer/seller), but this info should be marked on the barrel. The ones that I've seen were blued with a brass grip-frame, so it's likely that someone has spray-painted yours.

Those were pretty well made, though parts are scarce today. The major problem is that, like all .22's made on the basic SAA frame, they are heavy as all heck. When you take a cylinder and barrel sized for the .45 and drill only .22 holes, you get a lot of steel left over. One thing for sure, the recoil is not going to bother you.
