A Message from Michael Douglas About Guns

Banned Assault Weapons May Be Coming Back. The NRA is Trying to End the Ban and Gut the Brady Bill.

Dear xxxxxx,

Ten years ago a progressive coalition of citizens and legislators passed two major gun safety laws: a ban on assault weapons and the Brady bill-named for President Reagan's press secretary who survived being shot in the head. These two laws played a key role in the remarkable reduction in violent crime and make America a safer place.

But today, the National Rifle Association is leading an aggressive campaign to gut the protections of the Brady Bill and to end the assault weapons ban.

First, NRA lobbyists inserted text into an unrelated spending bill that would require that records of gun purchases be destroyed within 24 hours. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies say this would make it harder to catch violent criminals.

And the NRA is also pushing hard to prevent Congress from renewing the landmark Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. Letting the ban expire would put military-style, rapid-fire assault weapons that have been banned for the last ten years back on the street. Police departments, victims' rights advocates, and community groups across the country fear the consequences of getting these killers back into the hands of criminals.

Lastly, the NRA wants to prevent victims of gun crimes from seeking redress from negligent gun dealers like Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, which armed the D.C. snipers and sold 67 other guns used in crimes. The NRA thinks the victims and their families shouldn't get their day in court.

If you are a member of TrueMajority, to send an email (text below) to your Representative urging him or her to defend the Brady Bill, maintain the assault weapons ban, and preserve the rights of gun crime victims, just reply to this email by clicking "Reply" and then "Send" in your email program. Here is the letter we'll send to your Senators and Congressmember:

Dear Senator/Representative:

Ten years ago a coalition of citizens and legislators passed the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban. These bills have made our streets and our homes safer.

Now the NRA is campaigning to undermine these important laws. I urge you to help protect my family and me by:

1. Renewing and strengthening the Assault Weapons Ban.

2. Keeping the courthouse door open for victims of gun crimes; don't give special immunity to gun dealers.

3. Keeping background record checks for 90 days for any gun purchases.

This legislative session getting tough on crime means standing firm against the NRA.

Sincerely,
(We will insert your name and address here.)

Dear Senator/Representative:

Ten years ago a coalition of anti-Second Amendment lobbyists and legislators passed the Brady Bill and the so-called assault-weapons ban. These unconstitutional “laws†have not made our streets and our homes any safer.

Now the NRA is campaigning to eliminate these misguided laws. I urge you to help protect my family and me by:

1. Allowing the “assault-weapons†ban to sunset.

2. Blocking frivolous lawsuits against gun makers and sellers.

3. Destroying records of background checks for any gun purchases, as required by the Brady Bill.

This legislative session, getting tough on crime means standing firm behind the NRA.

Sincerely,
(your name and address here.)

These two laws played a key role in the remarkable reduction in violent crime and make America a safer place.
Safer for two classes of people, maybe: criminals and politicians. Maybe that's only one class, actually.

A Message from Boats About Guns

Banned Assault Weapons Will Be Coming Back. The NRA Will End the Ban and Gut the Brady Bill.

Dear xxxxxx,

Ten years ago a pantywaisted coalition of sheeple and legislative tyrants unobservant of the Constitution passed two major gun CONTROL laws: a cosmetic and ineffective ban on so-called assault weapons and the Brady Bill-named for President Reagan's press secretary who survived being shot in the head BY A NUTJOB WITH A REVOLVER. These two laws played a key role in the remarkable price rise of "pre-ban" rifles and magazines, and made America a safer place for gun owners by throwing the Democrats out of a Congressional majority in 1994.

And today, the National Rifle Association is leading an aggressive campaign to gut the protections of the Brady Bill and to end the assault weapons ban because they know it is ineffectual and intellectually insulting.

First, NRA lobbyists inserted text into an unrelated spending bill that would require that records of gun purchases be destroyed within 24 hours as the original law required before administrative regulations obviated the language. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies say this would make it harder to catch violent criminals. I say that if you want policing to be easy--MOVE TO NORTH KOREA.

And the NRA is also pushing hard to prevent Congress from renewing the landmark Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. Letting the ban expire would put military-style, rapid-fire assault weapons that were never effectively banned for the last ten years back on the street where they belong. Police departments, victims' rights advocates, and community groups across the country fear the consequences of getting these mostly low powered rifles back into the hands of criminals despite governmentally mandated studies that found the so-called ban had no effect on crime involving semi-automatic rifles, because mostly they weren't used in crimes. We won't even mention how it is that criminals ignore the law, including the Assault Weapons Ban. DUH.

Lastly, the NRA wants to prevent victims of gun crimes from seeking redress from ALLEGEDLY negligent gun dealers like Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, which ALLEGEDLY armed the D.C. snipers and ALLEGEDLY sold 67 other guns used in crimes. The NRA thinks the victims and their families shouldn't get their day in court, and this is a good thing, because of a time honored common law doctrine called INTERVENING CRIMINAL CAUSALITY, which severs the links that make a negligence case.

Example:
Bullseye was under a duty, by law, not to sell firearms to non-qualified persons.

Criminals admitted to shoplifting the rifle, imputing no complicity upon anyone at Bulleye.

ERGO, Bullseye did not breach their duty.

ERGO, Bullsye was not in sufficient proximity to the acts causing the harm to be reasonably responsible for it.

Let alone the distributor, Bushmaster and others.

If you are a member of TrueMajority, you are a fool, but you can shape up and send a snail mail to your Representative urging him or her to gut the Brady Bill, sunset the assault weapons ban, and preserve the rights of gun owners, just get off your likely obese duff and take a few minutes to actually figure out who your representative is and then spend 37 cents.

POWERFUL LETTER TO THE EDITOR/LEGISLATOR FEATURE

To The Editor/Congressman:

Ten years ago, two of the most blatantly unconstitutional pieces of legislation ever devised were passed by Congress--the so-called Brady Bill and Assault Weapons Ban. These bills have done exactly squat to make our streets and our homes safer.

Now the NRA is campaigning to weaken or destroy these unconstitutional laws. I urge you to help protect my family and me by:

1. Helping to end the Assault Weapons Ban.

2. Closing the courthouse doors to the "victims" of gun criminals, who when assisted by the Brady Campaign, have in turn sued those not responsible for the crimes and have made special immunity to gun manufacturers a necessity.

3. Destroying background record checks 24 hours following any gun purchases. This is the Information Age isn't it? Let's act like it.

This legislative session getting tough on crime means standing firm against the Bradys and the Million Moron March.

Sincerely,
(your name and address here.)

This might be more effective at quieting Mr Douglas:

-------------------------
Dear MGM/Universal Studios/Disney/Sony Pictures/Dreamworks/etc,

Due to Michael Douglas' constant and vocal support for all manner of left-wing and outright socialist programs, groups, and political positions, and especially because of his strident advocacy of denying American citizens their right to keep and bear arms as enumerated in the Second Amendment, I will no longer patronize any movie or television show in which he appears. I will continue to avoid anything featuring him until he returns to reality from the Marxian wonderland he is currently inhabiting.

I urge you to take into consideration how badly his outspoken idiocy hurts the marketability of anything in which he appears when making decisions on hiring him.

Sincerely,

Langenator

Although, considering he hasn't been in much worth seeing in a really long time anyway, it might not hurt him too much.
