HiViz fiber optic sights. What do you think?

I'm thinking about replacing my Glock G34 front sight with a fiber optic sight like the HiViz. Anyone have any experience with them? Are the Dawson sights a better choice? I like how HiViz comes with several sized rods and colors. So what do y'all think? Am I messing with "perfection" by replacing the crummy front sight?

I replaced the front sight on my Ruger Mark II Bull Barrel 22 and must say i love it.

I went with the HiViz sight took ma awhile to figure out which size optic tube i like the best but if nothing else i can actually see the front sight good now on the indoor range..

For a carry gun im not sure how they would be i would liek to see it on a gun b4 i decided..

But in general they work very well when there not a good light you can still see it pretty decently.

No personal experience, but I have seen them on a
SIG P220. And from the standpoint of just "looks";
they looked great. I didn't get a chance to shoot it,
as it belonged to an unknown party!

A friend calls them blind people target sights. They are a style statement! I have tried them on one CCW 45. They work. They can be seen. They hold up to guff. They are adjustable. I liked them. I don't own any though, yet.

Ive had 3 guns with them. Id HIGHLY recommend them. Blind people yes....in a way....NOTHING will give you faster front sight acquisition than a very bright glowing red dot.

HiViZ are good for the money.........very good. My favorite was a custom front sight for my CZ40 made from a billet from Cogan APW.
If there is a little light they will pick up on it and glow a little.

Im planning on getting another set for my Arcus BHP and my CZ40B.

At the very least they will have the front sight done.............

I tried a HiViz on a Glock 17 for a while. It served the purpose and is OK for the money. The bright fiber optic dot is very easy to pick up as long as there is some light to help it. The brighter the day, the better it works. I'm using black on black target sights now but if my eyesight gets much worse I may try a fiber optic again. The Dawson sight is more durable than my HiViz, but much more expensive. I think there is a newer, heavier duty HiViz made now.

Given the demographics in the United States, odds are we are almost all getting older and blinder. I know I am, and anything that helps me see better when I'm shooting, I'm all for it.

Great durring daylight or with other overhead light source. Bad for low light or no light, worse than stock sights. I do not recommend them to be used for a defensive roll, ie.CCW or HD.

However I am an idiot and you can do whatever you wish. I bought a set for my G26 and withen a few hours of use decided I needed true nightsights.

I personally have very little use for them on a defensive weapon. I'd rather have a large tritium such as a Mepro. I've seen the Mepros (just the front) on eBay and/or Gunbroker for about $25 or $30.

I've only had one on a gun... a Para 14/45. it was one of the EGW sights and in limited light (esp off a deck with a large overhang) the EGW was dramatically brighter than even the factory sight painted with high contrast orange paint... For a race gun, I think they're great... I just don't know about for a carry gun.

This pic was taken on a completely 100% overcast day and with no flash. The light you see on the back of the slide is a 60 watt yellow bulb about 8 feet away. Very bright!

I guess I shoulda specified that this is a range/plinking gun only. My P220ST fills the hd slot. Thanks for the replies. At around $20-25, I think I'll give the HiViz a shot.

I use the Hi Viz sights on my G35 and G21 that I compete with. I have really come to like the green insert, it just seems that I pick it up better than the red one. It has really helped my 45 year old eyes pick up the sight a lot faster.

You'll like 'em.
