In the Guns And Ammo Complete Book of the 1911 from 2003 or 2004, Cameron Hopkins said that HK was working on a 1911, and that Larry Vickers was working with HK on the project.

Was this just a rumor, or is HK just really slow at getting new guns out?

I'd like to see it, but if I bought anything from H&K it would be a USP Compact Tactical.

There is an HK45 that may be released next year. It is not a 1911. It is a hybrid of the P2000 and w/ a USP in a 45 frame, from the looks of it. DO not know if it is double or single stack. Not forsale yet - maybe next year.

Graffer, I have looked many times at HKpro hoping to see info about this since I first read the article, but the fact is that this particular article is the only place I've seen remotely solid evidence of an HK 1911.

No less than two THR members wrote articles in this particular magazine, and given all the people from the gun community, I'd think if this was anything but gibberish somebody would know more about this.

HK making a 1911 would be akin to Volkswagon trying to build a rear-drive, big-block V-8 powered 4,000 pound muscle car. Some things just shouldn't be done.

I for one would like to see it done. HK has a flawless reputation. Larry Vickers does too. I don't care if it would be weird, if HK made a 1911, I have confidence it would be as good of a 1911 as money can buy.

By the way, earlier in the summer I saw a VW beetle converted to rear wheel drive that had a huge motor dropped in it. The thing was set up for drag racing.

It is the HK45. That is the gun that Mr. Vickers was working on with HK. It is a single stack .45. There is a fullsize and compact size version. One has 8 round capacity while the other has 10 round capacity. They are SAO, DA/SA or DAO if I remember correctly. This gun will be the HK entry into the DOD pistol trials for SOCOM.

(I never realized how many acronyms there are in the gun world!!!:D )

Tecumseh,

So are you telling me that HK is positively not working on a 1911?

The magazine article says specificaly 1911, not USP compact or whatever. Its becoming obvious that this was just a stupid rumor that guns and ammo was dumb enough to publish.

Anyway, if they aren't making a 1911 I don't much care what they are up to. I've always found their guns to be ugly little things.

Larry Vickers was working on the HK45 (and possibly the HK416?) with HK. You can read about it on his website:

http://www.vickerstactical.com/articles.htm

Look for the Shotgun News article. He did not work on an HK 1911 (though he is an acclaimed gunsmith who has built very expensive 1911's).

HK has a flawless reputation.
No, not quite flawless . . . though they do make some nice guns (I'd love an MP5SD ;) ) I've never been particularly impressed with their rifles, and don't really like their current USPs . . . function is good, but they're clunky and overpriced. And HK has turned out some real junkers in the past.

Take the HK VP70Z . . . please.

Or the HK4, a cheap copy of a Mauser HSc, made of stampings tack-welded together. Only gun I've personally handled with a broken frame . . . tended to double and triple unexpectedly and unpredictably.

A USP compact tactical???

Is that new?

Yep. Just came out this year I think. And the best part is that its the same price as the USP Tactical full size.

That's a good thing? I think the Compact Tactical should cost LESS, if anything. Doesn't come with the match trigger, or adjustable sights. Why should it cost the same as the full size Tac??

I was one of those that looked forward to the 1911 interpretation from HK, but alas, it is not to be...instead, it's a reworked USP :scrutiny: I'm a HK fan big time, but this "new" firearm is more laurel sitting than true innovation!

It was the best they could do it is called the hk45 and it comes in od green and pretty expensive. You can see it on hk pro it is not as great as the other 45's hk has came out with because it limits you on the ammo. When you have the same thing in the tactical with 13 round's. This one only has ten

"Compact Tactical" can also be taken to mean "Counter Terrorism" as it's been adopted by some US special operations units and such.

Which is to say, you're paying for the Tacticool factor, I suspect. CDNN has them in its current catalog listing for $900 or so (may be wrong on the price).

HK designed the HK45 for the now-cancelled USASOC pistol competitions. It very deliberately has the smaller magazine, since the grip-size on the Mk 23 was part of the reason it was generally a pricey safe queen ("arms room queen," I suppose) for those units that were issued them and why many SOF units never procured them at all. (Admittedly not the only issue.)
