Hello everyone,
I have a question concerning the use of the primer pick-up tubes for the Hornady LNL AP press. After picking up the primers, there is 1 -2 primers still held in the plastic tip that will not drop into the primer tube. How do you guys get those primers to drop out of the pick-up tube.

I have been using the small allen wrench that came with the press to push it up into the tube and this has worked OK for the small primers. However, the other day, I managed to get a large primer stuck in the pick-up tube sideways. it was a real pain to remove and I crimped the tube doing so, ruining it. I don't want to have this happen again, so I m looking for idea from the collective experts here.

Thanks for your help.

I use the white indicator stick that Hornady includes with the press.
I use that as well. I insert the white rod, and when I place the pick-up tube over the primer tube and release the clip it helps push all the primers down into the tube.
I also marked my indicator rod with some marks for 50, 20, 10, so I know how far to empty.

I've had large primers get stuck in the pickup tube. To prevent it, after filling the pickup tube and before turning the tube upright, insert the indicator rod and push the primers against the pin, then turn the tube upright and leave the rod in to follow the primers down through the tube when loading the press.
As stated in the previous post it is an "indicator" rod, mark it to show how many primers are left and leave it in to lock open the primer pickup when it's empty.

I leave them in there as well. If you absolutely had to have them out you could push them through with the fiberglass primer rod.

I use what ever is handy to push them out of the pickup end, normally the indicator rod. I did have a LP tube that had a rough seam in which primers would stick in the middle of the tube. A call to Hornady and they sent me a new one out, problem solve. I also did not like the heavy force required to push them into the pickup tube. So I took my # drill bits and started opening it up to where I like it. I did this by hand, just pushing the bit in and out.

I bought the red gun shape tool also. Wasn't cheap, but beats the Hell out of messing around trying to pick up primers one by one with that stupid tube.

Have lots of round tools that are large and small primer size. I just grab one of them and push the primer in. Carefully.

I just leave them in. Guess I'm #4
#5... The only time I worry about it is when switching from Large Pistol to Large Rifle. There have been a few times where I have loaded LPP's into rifle case or LR in pistol cases with no ill effect however I try and remember to make sure to remove that stuck primer before switching over.
