Hello everybody. My dad has a 50 cal. Thompson Center Hawken. It is in relativley good condition. It fires fine and there is no damage. Just old and you can tell it has been used. The only problem is that the rifling in the barrel is worn out. There is little to none left. It doesn't shoot anything but balls anymore. And they are just way off target and the groups are terrible. I tried to talk him into just buying a new barrel for it but they cost about $150. He has had people ask him to sell it. The highest price so far has been $50. He wants to get rid of it and just buy a new one, but he doesn't want to get ripped off.

What would be a good amount of money to recieve in exchange for the Hawken?

Seems fair to me to ask whatever its book value would be (as a used gun) minus the cost of a new barrel. Can't give any specific numbers though.

If he likes the gun and its still in good working order, why not buy the barrel? That way he keeps the gun he's used to, only has to work up a load for the new barrel. And its cheaper than a whole new gun.
