Aren't the mags on an XD supposed to drop free? No sarcasm. honest question.

Yeah, they're supposed to. He's doing a type III drill which is a double-feed, right? During double feeds, sometimes the mag gets wedged in there pretty good, which is why you're supposed to rip it out.

Of course, that's if I'm remembering correctly... no guarantees of that.
