Hey guys I just bought an 870 Express Magnum off my friend today. He got it from a friend of his. Its been around the block a bit but is still in pretty darn good condition.

Anyways the original owner spilled some interior house paint on the barrel and the stock. How can I get this off? I was thinking nail polish remover or paint thinner, but what will that do to the finish?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

First determine if it is latex or alkyd (oil) base). Latex can be removed with a product called Goof=Off sold at most paint stores. Oil base can be removed with laquer thinner, I have used both to remove paint on Bubba gun finishes without damage to the original finish. I would remove the barrel and try a small spot on the underside that is hidden by the mag tube to be sure.

This might seem unusual, but automotive brake fluid is quite good at removing paint. (whistle ;)) Provided it is not contaminated by moisture, it also has some anti-corrosive and lubricating properties.

Metal parts are impervious to lacquer thinner, acetone, or mineral spirits. Whole different story with wood or synthetic. Try some stuff recommended above for that.
