I would like to deer hunt with a 1911, but lets face it, it is not a "magnum". While I have killed a deer (7 point, 7 yard, standing broadside shot with 230 gr XTP handload, it ran 50 yards) I would really prefer something stouter than .45 ACP to deer hunt with. I would like to be able to reliably take down a 175 pound deer at 35 yards.

Would the .460 Rowland or .45 Super suit me for this? If so, which is better, and which brand 1911 would probably take the recoil better?

I know that a .44 magnum would be a more reasonable choice, but I really am comfortable shooting the old 1911.

Thanks.

That might not me be a bad suggestion. 10mm in a six inch barrel. It would be flat shooting and have plenty of power.

I've shot a colt delta elite II in 10mm and while I don't think it's the wrist breaking recoil machine the FBI wrote it off to be it seems very stout and powerful to me....whatever that's worth, seems like a very nice round though
