Howdy everyone! I'm a brand new member, although I've been reading everyone elses postings in this forum for a few days. You sound like a pretty good bunch of gun people and I'm looking forward to conversing with you in cyberspace - if that's what it's called. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing from you on this here computer.

Greetings. We have an outstanding group of people here (not talking about myself). From your handle I would guess you favor Sharps rifles. Collector?

What part of SE ID specifically? I drive through Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Malad City, and Snowville everytime I drive back and forth from NV to MT for college.

Glad to have your here! Pull up a chair next to the ice chest and put your feet up.

A Big Ole' Hearty Welcome From The Heart Of DixieLand :D

Pull up a chair and stay awhile, as we have some right nice folks here; not
to mention that they have a vast knowledge of firearms, past and present!
I always wanted to visit Idaho and Montana, but I'm afraid if I visit, I may
wind up staying as it gets awfully HOT here in old Dixie.

Met a Mormon one time from Montana, and he told a story of bear's feeding
on apple trees right in his back yard! :uhoh: Can't imagine such, living here
within "the city". Anyway, its good to have you on board, and I hope you
enjoy your stay. ;)

Howdy again everyone. Thanks for the welcomes.

Yeah, I do like Sharps rifles. Mine's just a replica - Shiloh, Model 1874 (Quigley) 45-110. My wife ordered it for me for our 29th anniversary and I finally got it by the time our 32nd rolled around. I haven't yet, but I will be using it for Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette competition.

Other than my facination with Sharps rifles, my taste in guns is basic meat and potatoes. I like pre-64 Model 70 Winchesters and Ruger 77s. Because we hunt deer in fairly open country, I use a .300 Win Mag. But I would never argue with someone else's choice of a good old 30-06, a .270 Winchester, or any other flat shooting, hard hitting, cartridge. For handguns I like Ruger and Smith revolvers and 1911 automatics - I haven't made up my mind on which builder of 1911s I like best. As far as handgun cartridges go, I like everything from 22s to 45s and have experience with most of them. My experience with shotguns is limited however. I still use my first, and only one - it's a Remington 1100 that I received for my 16th birthday - 41 years ago. I read a lot of postings in this forum from people who are into various military style rifles - ARs and SKSs and such. I'm not, but I will defend with every ounce of my being, the right to own them. I'm fully aware that if the anti - 2nd Amendment bigots ban so called "assault rifles" they would go after "sniper rifles" next. And they would classify my .223 coyote rifle and my scoped deer rifles as "sniper rifles."

If you've driven from Malad to Pocatello, you've driven right past our place. We live a few miles south of McCammon, just off the old highway. It's nice here. Winters are cold, but that's not too bothersome. And the summer heat doesn't last very long. Our shooting range is a county gravel pit just over the hill. There are a lot of Chuckers and Sharptail Grouse around, and there's pretty good deer and elk hunting within an hours drive. We've been in a drought for 5 years though, so fishing around here isn't worth a darn.

I've probably burned up enough space by now. I just want to say I'm happy to be in this forum. I'm a believer in life-long learning and I'm looking forward to learning from, and about, you good folks.

Hello from another Idaho shooter. I live over in the Boise area. Grew up in Idaho Falls though and I've spent time in Soda Springs, Malad, and around Bear Lake. You'll find this is a very good place. See you around.

Howdy, Sharps! I live in Poky, practically spittin' distance. :)

Welcome!
I grew up in Idaho so it's good to see people from my original home state posting. You will learn more than you ever wanted to know on this board! :D

Hey Checkman and ID shooting! :)
I grew up out at Homedale. We still get up there once in a while to visit my folks.
What do you guys think of the Boise Gun Company? The last time we were up there I was looking to purchase a 1911, so we looked them up in the phone book and stopped by. I think they had about the largest selection of firearms in one store I've ever seen. However, I didn't have much time to check them out and didn't have the money to buy right then anyway. But taxes are over now, so the next time I'm in Boise - what's your opinion?

Welcome Idaho from the land of Gators and snakes

What everyone says is so. This is a great group! There are three of us from work involved with varying gun interests and all three have gotten invaluable information. It beats the crap out of the idiot box for entertainment after work.

I'm a meat and potaoes gunnut myself. I'm also getting into the 45-70 caliber.

Welcome aboard.

I spent a pleasent couple of months outside of Pocatello a few years ago. MOst of it was out in field on a cattle ranch putting up part of the nation-wide weather radar system. I remember getting hailed on once while I was out there and seeing six tornados coming out of the sky at the same time. Fortunately none of them touched down... If I could have gotten a job at the local weatherstation I'd have stayed. :D

Boise Gun Company is OK, good shop, fair prices for the most part and huge selection. Gary is pretty good to deal with. For shops in Boise though, Shapels is the place to go. Ran with the same small town attitude that it started with over 50 years ago. By far the best shop in town. Not a pretty store, but has it where it counts.

If your on the east side SKI's in Idaho Falls is the place, best inventory and JOhn is a good guy. He has excellent selection of used, collectable and new.

Welcome Sharps,

I can't imagine that there's too much out there (firearms related) that you can't learn more about here. I'd probably learn more if I weren't so close-minded and hard-headed.
