Howdy again everyone. Thanks for the welcomes.
Yeah, I do like Sharps rifles. Mine's just a replica - Shiloh, Model 1874 (Quigley) 45-110. My wife ordered it for me for our 29th anniversary and I finally got it by the time our 32nd rolled around. I haven't yet, but I will be using it for Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette competition.
Other than my facination with Sharps rifles, my taste in guns is basic meat and potatoes. I like pre-64 Model 70 Winchesters and Ruger 77s. Because we hunt deer in fairly open country, I use a .300 Win Mag. But I would never argue with someone else's choice of a good old 30-06, a .270 Winchester, or any other flat shooting, hard hitting, cartridge. For handguns I like Ruger and Smith revolvers and 1911 automatics - I haven't made up my mind on which builder of 1911s I like best. As far as handgun cartridges go, I like everything from 22s to 45s and have experience with most of them. My experience with shotguns is limited however. I still use my first, and only one - it's a Remington 1100 that I received for my 16th birthday - 41 years ago. I read a lot of postings in this forum from people who are into various military style rifles - ARs and SKSs and such. I'm not, but I will defend with every ounce of my being, the right to own them. I'm fully aware that if the anti - 2nd Amendment bigots ban so called "assault rifles" they would go after "sniper rifles" next. And they would classify my .223 coyote rifle and my scoped deer rifles as "sniper rifles."
If you've driven from Malad to Pocatello, you've driven right past our place. We live a few miles south of McCammon, just off the old highway. It's nice here. Winters are cold, but that's not too bothersome. And the summer heat doesn't last very long. Our shooting range is a county gravel pit just over the hill. There are a lot of Chuckers and Sharptail Grouse around, and there's pretty good deer and elk hunting within an hours drive. We've been in a drought for 5 years though, so fishing around here isn't worth a darn.
I've probably burned up enough space by now. I just want to say I'm happy to be in this forum. I'm a believer in life-long learning and I'm looking forward to learning from, and about, you good folks.
