I'm in a bit of a pickle.

A coworker of mine has a pretty decent looking Norinco AK he's looking to sell. I'm having a bit of a brain fart, but I'm fairly certain it was a MAK90.

No appreciable, wear. In fact it looked nearly new. It has a K-Var, U.S. made, Bulgarian type stock on it. And it's 'parts compliant'. He's including 3 30rd. magazines, too.

I think I want it... I think. I've been wanting a second AK style rifle. I've currently got a Romanian WASR.

What would be a reasonable price for it? I think I can get a fairly good deal on it, but I don't really know what the going rate is on these. I've done some searching and it seems Norincos are becoming more and more desireable. Are they?

I want it... but don't need it by any means. I really hate to let it go, though. Seems like too many times recently I've put things off, telling myself to wait because I didn't need it; and I've ended up regretting it. If it turns out to be a good enough deal, I think I just might. But if not, I'll pass. I guess I just need some kind of endorsement that it would be worth it.

 :banghead:

Thanks,
Steve

Hmmm - hard to advize really... but let me use SKS examples. I have a Yugo - shoots ok but bore is crap! Also a Romanian - pretty nice and good bore. Then I have a Norinco - this is a great gun - cost way more than the others and if going for AK would possibly expect there, to pay over the odds.

I know some will disagree - and my SAR1 is quite adequate but - I guess these days, a good Chinky AK could make $500 - as against the sub $400 perhaps of a Romanian. Just guessing tho.

If this gun happened to be $300 -$350 then if good shape I'd sure buy it. Above that - well, not so sure it'd be a bargain, tho still probably a good gun.

I am only ''2c-ing'' out loud! :)

In the last 18 months I have seen MAK-90's sell for as low as $225 cash FTF and as high as $325 plus tax by FFL. If you don't want it let me know. I don't want another stamped receiver with the angle cut but if it has K-VAR stocks it is a straight cut receiver most likely. I am in the Raleigh area.

The Chinese AK's are well made and finished but parts availability will never be like Romanians or Russian's.

I've got a Norinco stamped-receiver MAK90 and a Norinco milled-receiver MAK90. Both were bought new in 1993/94 for $199 each. At the last gun show I went to, I saw brand new Norinco MAK90s (thumbhole stocks) with asking prices of $300-$350. They came with the original styrofoam case with all the little accessories, like the sling, cleaning kit, etc....Hope this helps.

I just bought an almost new MAK-90 with a milled receiver and Choate Dragunov-type stock. I love it. Has a very good trigger, looks good, well-made, has been totally accurate, takes all the cheap AK mags. I paid $300. I think the Chinese MAK series rifles are considered some of the best AK's imported to the U.S. Test the trigger before you buy. Mine has no take-up and is relatively short and light.

I got a Mak90 for $275 in a pawnshop, as mentioned the trigger is great, first time I fired it I threw three shots because of the trigger, I carry it anytime I'm on water.
