Hi everyone I just bought my AR lower it was a LMT defender lower with SOPMOD stock, now I need a upper right? Different people I talked to suggested different companies like CMMG,Sabre,Vltor and LMT is there one that is better than the other as uppers go?

Thank you! the place where I bought my lower doesn't sell LMT uppers any suggestions?

+1 on getting the LMT upper. I'd order it directly from them, unless there is any sort of delay with the format/barrel length and such you want. If so, you may be able to find a third party that stocks them.

LMT is definitely top end quality. If the cost does not break your budget, I'd actually say look at getting one of their Monolithic Rail Platform uppers. Versatile and excellent piece of kit.

Not that it matters for functionality, but out of curiosity, do colors of different manufacturer's uppers/lowers vary much? e.g. having a LMT lower that looks "black" with a stag upper that looks "dark grey"? Or is the anodizing pretty universal across the board?

Miss Debbie,

I don't know what uses you plan on for your AR so I'm in the dark. The lower you have is indeed a good one. It looks to me like you might be after a carbine type rifle and not a full sized one.

I would look at www.eaglefirearms.net

They seem to be out of stock on most uppers right now. I have ordered from them and service was good. I also know a couple who ordered a RRA NM lower from Eagle and they thought service was OK as well. This might also give you an idea of what kind of upper you are after. The RRA's I've been around seem to work well.

If you wanted to go match shooting I would recommend White Oak Precision. I'm currently breaking in my second upper from White Oak and getting ready for Camp Perry.

weasel, yes, the colours do vary but I do not stay up nights worrying about it. I have lowers from many different makers RRA, Stag, Sun Devil, LMT, Sabre, inter alia. In fact, colouring from the same maker varies, e.g. I have a RRA 9mm lower (which, I made immediately after purchase into an assembled carbine if the ATFE is reading this a few years in the future) which is gray, but other RRA lowers are very dark indeed.

I want the guns to run. Tactical fashion will come second.:D

Yes I selected the LMT 16". Thanks for everyones help now my next purchase will be a red dot scope.

Good choice.

I recommend the EOTech Holographic Red Dot Sight

Probably a Model 512.A65/1

That's what I was thinking a EOtech. Do they have the rails built in right? Where Aimpoint does not right?

The EOTech mounts directly on your rifle's flat-top rail, no separate mount is required.

I'm happy with my EOTech, although I haven't tried an aimpoint yet to compare. Very quick target acquisition even with so-so cheek welds.
I found mine is a little low for my tastes when mounting directly on a flat top receiver (by no means unusable), but there are plenty of companies that make spacers or an ARMS throw lever mount which are pretty cool.
If you get an EOTech I'd recommend getting one that uses AA batteries since they are cheap, common, and have 5 times the life of the N battery models, even though they are a little longer.
